California wants to break free and form their own liberal utopia.

My exposure to Northern California is limited to checking rental rates in and around San Francisco.

For now, bachelor's level-work in mental health, until I get my MSW.

I hope it works out for you if you do move. Just know that the more populated areas are liberal but as you venture further out it gets more conservative.

I visited wine country not too long ago up in Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Napa Valley. We took some back streets in what was basically a country side and saw churches almost on every other corner. I felt like we weren't in Kansas any more or maybe we were actually in Kansas.

I'm missing something from that. :)

An experience you've encountered?
Kansas just passed a law making it illegal for cops to have
sex when ticketing people or taking them into custody.
Astonishingly, most states allow that.
Pay attention to current events!

Sure you didn't end up in my neck of the woods?:p
And, yeah, I noticed as we left the LA metropolitan area (I don't think I spent that much time in LA other than flying into LAX, but honestly I have no idea) to visit with some friends of my parents who snow bird move to Porterville that the further away from LA, the more churches. I was actually pretty surprised venturing around the LA metropolitan area, because I thought with the super-huge number of people I would see even more churches than I do here. Not at the same "church-to-person ratio" like here, but numerically I thought I would see more churches. Turns out I saw even less churches than about any given square city mile around here, hardly seeing any at all until we got further away from LA.
Actually, I don't know if I'd know what to do with myself in an environment where there are more things to do than church and bars.

good luck getting trade negotiations going with the orange dimwit, for all the imports one would require to run the country, where are the oil reserves in California again?

Texas might be a able to secede because it has something America wants. Oil.

But who is to say America won't financially destroy every country it has ever traded with or break every single treaty they have ever signed. It's one thing to be part of the country to consistently does this and gets away with it than to be on the other side of the deal.

It's one thing to be part of the country that makes deals it breaks on a consistent basis, or signs a treaty with no intention of keeping their end of the bargain made, no treaty, trade deal that America has every signed, have they kept. Trump is America and America is Trump. A low class no integrity business swindler with a lot of power backing up the deal. Sign it or we will make you sign it later when we fund some economic hitmen to knock your face in the dirt or a coup funded by the US under the table, they have the resources to wait you out in economic attrition.

I'll find a state social worker to coach me on milking the system.
Sure. I'll just "assist, educate, direct, and facilitate linkage to community resources" with you. The wording may be odd, but those are magic words that makes insurance open up its coffers to pay for services. Never mind what these community resources are. It could housing assistance, food banks, prostitutes, or hit men: that wording turns insurance into South Park Comcast nipple rubbers.
