Can Trump be stopped?

Hi BSM1,

The wall has already been approved in one form or another. It's expressed purpose is to stem the flow of illegal immigrants. The proposal to stop immigrants from ISIS controlled area until they can be vetted is also recommended by higher-ups in the Obama security advisors.

Accusations of Trump's racism aside (which I think are obvious, frankly), let's consider the proposed wall in practical terms. There are roughly 11 million illegal immigrants from Mexico in the United States today, according to the reports I've read. And that number has not significantly changed in perhaps a decade, if not longer (I've not gone back further). In fact, the estimate has gone down in recent years by a slight amount. Roughly 50,000 Mexicans attempt to illegally enter the United States annually, with more than half of them being caught by border authorities. That leaves us with maybe 25,000 Mexicans illegally entering the country annually, and more apparently either leaving or being expelled from the country since the total number of illegals is going down...

Yet Donald Trump is proposing we build a wall to stop, what... 25 thousand from entering the country annually, compared with a slightly declining 11 million already here? This is supposed to have a significant impact on the problem of illegal immigration?

Has anyone who likes Trump's wall idea also considered the fact that there's the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico there for illegals to sail over and entirely bypass a physical wall? I honestly wonder if Trump slept through geography class when he was a kid...

Please explain to me, someone, anyone, how this makes any sense in practical terms. How spending a huge amount of money (one estimate says $49 billion) to prevent a handful of illegals from entering the country.

Mexico's going to pay for it? Yeah, right. How's Trump going to accomplish that, exactly? Is he going to start a war with Mexico to force the issue? Honestly, with Trump's egomania and arrogance, I would not at all be surprised if the man would consider doing something this egregiously insane and immoral.

..

Honestly, I find the lack of basic facts in Donald Trump's wall plan are quite symbolic of the man's ideas in general. He's big on "selling feelings," as his facade of a "University" was big on as a selling point for wannabe entrepreneurs who bought his courses. But he time and again falls very short on demonstrating the possession of even a basic education or comprehension about what is actually going on in the world. instead, he's a con man, as his one great talent seems to be projecting enormous confidence about his plans, in spite of how absurd they may actually be. The man quite obviously makes up nonsense on the spot, intended to merely sound appealing to a large population, but really nonsensical under more careful scrutiny, poorly covering up his sheer ignorance underneath with half-assed BS explanations the following day or so.

And what gets me the most is how so many people buy his bull.

Could you cite your sources. Even if you are right are you okay with 50,000 illegal aliens trying to cross into this country? BTW, those captured have not all been Hispanic.

I lean more towards a candidate who makes up nonsense on the spot,
than a candidate who reads scripted carefully crafted nonsense.
With the former, at least there's room for learning & improvement.
What a nasty choice we face.

USA society could shut that off like a spigot if we stopped giving jobs to them.
Why do you suppose that doesn't happen?

All those "leeched" benefits people are worried are a lot cheaper than building a wall and the maintenance for it, and if we put a wall in all they're going to do is go around or under it. The cartels will probably even have functioning tunnel routes underneath it before the wall is even finished.

There is now 0-net immigration coming across from Mexico, and could you cite your source for the latter, but make certain it's fully up to date?

Well, we can certainly put this issue to bed. Absolutely no illegal aliens, dangerous or otherwise, are crossing our Southern border...hmmm...
You asked for a source for the information. I noticed that the people you were asking were not online at the moment so I decided to give you the source you were asking for. The civilised response to this would be to say "thank you".

Sorry, not offhand. If I have some time I would be happy to. Offhand, a simply Google search should produce the numbers.

It's actually half the 50 thousand, or 25 thousand, that get past the guards. Honestly, even if it were 50k, there are far worse problems facing the nation and the world today than a mere trickling of illegal immigrants. Sure it's problematic, but I'm not unamenable to simply naturalizing a lot of them - if I lived in a country ruled by either mobsters or a ruthless dictator, I'd sure as hell get myself and my family out of there to somewhere safe too whether by hook or by crook.

Far more important an issue is the fact that we live in an oligarchy. Our democratic process is seriously compromised. Our votes are meaningless next to the egregious corruption, the corporate bribery that goes on. Corporate oligopolies not only dominate the world's economy, they control our government. We need to bring integrity into our government representatives and officials before we can do anything meaningfully positive, if you ask me. That's my #1 priority. I was a Bernie man, though that ship has sadly sailed.

It's not saying no illegals are coming in. It's saying that more are leaving than entering the country.

Maybe a wall will only help to keep them in, prevent them from crossing back into Mexico, lol.

Well I agree with your last sentence for sure. I'm absolutely not fond of Clinton either. She's as corrupt and phony as the day is long.

I'd vote for her over Trump though. Trump bestows absolutely no confidence in me whatsoever that he's either presently capable of being president, or of learning and improving in any way. In fact, I am confident he will badly bungle the job and cost many lives. He's way too chaotic, unstable, and inexperienced. Clinton may be a crook and a BS artist (though Trump has her beat in the BS department, and possibly in the crook department), but at least she has a brain in her head and does not convey gut-wrenching fear of the potentials for World War 3 and death camps for Muslims and Mexicans in me...

I was hoping for Bernie myself. Oh well.

Revelation all the time
Why is it xenophobic/racism if Trump deports illegal immigrants, but touted as wonderful that it is occurring now? Can we have it both ways politically? Great that the left does this, but inherently racist if same thing happens under a Pub admin?

Clinton's corruption doesn't bother me as much as her hawkish record & rhetoric.
Sure, her Wall St cronyism & deals will cause some economic loss, but the risk
of war with Iran (or who knows who else) would be devastating.
