Canada anti-islamophobia motion M103

I agree. I feel like those who would oppose a mere study of this kind in a way are demonstrating some animosity towards Islam.

We know that it's hard for people to change their minds, especially on deeply held beliefs. Theocracy (i.e. anti-secularism), is baked into the core of Islam. Why would we assume that these people would all want to change their stripes?

All religions, including Islam, have changed throughout their histories. There are different forms of Islam, just as there are different forms of Judaism and Christianity.

It appears that with motion M103, the Canadian government still start looking into shutting down "Islamophobia"... argh! Seems danged close to a blasphemy law to me:

Canada passes M-103 motion against Islamophobia

No It is just a redundant motion and pandering in order to put forward the image that the government is doing something. Anti-discrimination laws already include Muslims. Until the Heritage Committee comes back with their study and plan of action this is my opinion.

We've seen the OIC do this to the UN for years now. Same topic. They are relentless. They will attempt to chip away and chip away. For years now the OIC brings the idea of blasphemy laws to the UN.

It's almost like some just do not want to admit and acknowledge Islamophobia is a real thing, and it is a real problem. For all we know, the study may also include ways to help foreign-born Muslims assimilate into Western culture, and may even help to clarify and enforce what a statement of bigotry is to do away with this confusion over "hate vs. criticism."

You haven't even shown it was a Muslim who pushed for this.

Out of couple dozen or so I've met, they respect our ways and really have no desires or urges to change us into a theocracy and enforce Sharia. They aren't all like Bin Laden and come over here and think "this is terrible....I blow things up and kill people here."

I don't doubt it. But we should never forget the degree of cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics they have to endure / perform to maintain that perspective.

Why do you think that they have to perform mental gymnastics in this way? The Muslims I've spoken to certainly would prove you wrong.

Because to support secularism is fundamentally antithetical to Islam. So I don't doubt that many Muslims do support this cognitive dissonance, but at some level this is an ongoing and/or recurring brain drain.

This seems absurd to me. Having read the Quran and done some outside research on my own, it seems clear that Muhammad demanded tolerance of other religions. In actuality, he made it very very clear that there could not be compulsion in religion in any way. Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of crazy fundamentalists out there who go against Muhammad, demanding that people convert to their brand of Islam, but they are the ones who have gotten Islam wrong.

Here is one link out of many, set back with a cup of coffee and enjoy.
Cruelty in the Quran
Many seem very similar to what we see in the Bible, both OT and NT. So, can you pick out a couple/few passages that really strike you as evil? I would enjoy discussing them with you, but the list you provided isn't helpful for that.

But, just as a starting point:
They who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein." 2:39
- The Bible says the same thing of those who don't believe and aren't "saved".
