Canada did WHAT!

I don't see what this has to do with gays at all. Nothing wrong with their proposal. We need to change our entire anthem to something else since no one can sing it, anyway (except for Whitney at her prime).

Hey, there was a girl at my high school who could sing it GORGEOUSLY. (And I just hate it in general.)

I actually like it, as it can be beautiful if sung correctly, but it rarely is. Whitney's version is the definitive version for me, but I'm a Whitney fanboy anyway.

I have always hated that line in our national anthem. Don't like the replacement much either. meh
Can't say I ever liked it either. The weird part is Canadians are closet patriots and don't tend to make showy displays of nationalism. Certainly nothing like our armed to the teeth friends in America. It is because of that the line always struck me as being off. I do agree the replacement isn't much of an improvement.

Truth be told if I had my way I would get "God" outadar. But whatever.

I will admit though that I do like the tune. I like the American anthem as well. I am weird that way.

How does having gender neutral language not or even offend homosexuals? Like how do you even get to that conclusion?
Also who cares?

Can I just ask, why do you care? I'm Canadian and I don't even care about this. I don't know anyone who does.
I care.

It isn't the biggest issue on my list; it isn't even near the top, but I care.

It's the French version that's REALLY messed up, though: "since our arms are ready to carry the sword, they are ready to carry the cross?" Yikes.

The original English lyrics didn't have "God". Originally, its was "O Canada, glorious and free", not "God keep our land glorious and free." The change was made in the early 80s during the process of making O Canada the official national anthem.

The ultra liberal Gov'ment of Canada changes it's anthem to avoid any possible insult to
homosexuals.
Really?
The change isn't official yet. It has passed the House of Commons. It still has to pass the Senate and get royal assent.

BTW: the real aim here was to pass a reasonable private member's bill before the MP who authored it, who is terminally ill, dies.

The lyric that was changed wasn't even original to the song. Like "God keep our land", it was a change from the early 80s. The original line was "true patriot love in thou dost us command." I think the new lyric captures the inclusiveness of the original without being old-fashionedly clunky: "true patriot love in all of us command."

If you're arguing that we should stick with the original lyrics, great - the version we have now, with a bunch of changes from 1981, is not the original. I like the original better than the version I grew up with.
