Can it be requested?

I want my name off of the Church rolls.

I never made a "choice" to join the church and was forced to as a teenager.

I disagree with just about everything it stands for irt abortion, trans individuals, homosexual marriage, guilt/salvation theology etc.

I believe you can contact the diocese where you were baptized and request to be removed from Church membership. I'd have to check the details on that.

Request removal from the records.

It might work...

This is what I found: "Although the act of "formal defection" from the Catholic Church has thus been abolished, public or "notorious" (in the canonical sense) defection from the Catholic faith or from the communion of the Church is of course possible, as is expressly recognized in the 1983 Code of Canon Law."

This doesn't seem clear to me on what they mean by "act of formal defection"

It seems it is no longer possible.

Interesting.

If it makes you feel any better, if you haven't been to Mass any time recently, you're probably not being "counted" on some list as still Catholic:

I've looked into this with regard to the Anglican church

The answer for Anglicanism is "no"

Which I find pretty disgraceful

I should imagine it would be the same with the Catholic church

I may not be able to defect. But I have to be able to be excommunicated due to apostasy, it's canon law.

The 1983 Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church automatically excommunicates, or latae sententiae, people who commit certain actions.

These actions include:
Apostasy, heresy, or schism: Canon 1364 covers these actions, which can include converting to another religion or renouncing all religion

Desecrating the Eucharist: Throwing away consecrated species or keeping them for a sacrilegious purpose

Attacking the pope: Using physical force against the Roman pontiff

Confession violations: A priest who absolves a partner in confession for breaking the sixth commandment, or a priest who violates the seal of the confessional

etc

If you've apostasized, you're automatically excommunicated already. There doesn't need to be a formal process for that.

Yes, but they don't automatically check for that. It's not like the church knows since we aren't in the once imperial Roman state.

No, but there's nothing that...happens, because your name is on a record as having been baptized in a Catholic parish some 20+ years ago.

Here's a plan:
  1. Go into a Catholic church and tell everyone who you are, introduce yourself to the priest and the congregation
  2. Tell them your actual beliefs and that you don't share their beliefs
  3. Try and become involved in the life of that church whilst sharing your beliefs vocally
  4. Even take communion, indeed make a point of taking it
They may eventually formally kick you out!

Idk but it won’t hurt to ask.

Excommuniation latae sententiae doesn't involve any administrative process by the church, it is considered to happen automatically.

The RCC has been under the protection of the state since the time of Constantine, I'm not aware of any event that would nullify that.

Who cares what the Catholics say or think?

They don't own you.

But just for the hell of it I would probably think of something that they excommunicate people over and I would do just that!

In fact the Catholics themselves can tell you how!
II'm particularly fond over the desecration of the communion. That will get the bishop royally riled up!

Then maybe go out somewhere to celebrate.
