Meet your new war president, same as your old war president.
Congratulations Obama.
I agree. Obama just announced 30000 new troops for Afghanistan. I hoped he would send them into Pakistan.Obama is about as conservative as Bush.
You call sending troops to Afghanistan civilized? Afghans are civilized and so are many Americans, what we are witnessing is a clash of barbarians with civilization getting caught in the crossfire. The civilized lose on both sides.tho i understand his point of view, i simply do not believe afghanistan to be a winnable war. but he certainly seems willing to go a long way for that loss. someone should crack open a history book, you cant civilize a people who dont want civilization.

Thanx J. I'll send some your way too.good point, frubals
Well, Obama is smarter than Bush, but I'm not sure that's an advantage where conservatives are concerned. I always thought that Thatcher's being smarter than Reagan made her more dangerous than Reagan.Obama is about as conservative as Bush.
I'm afraid you are probably right.I don't see much good coming of this. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I doubt that I am.
Obama is a slick talker, smooth as silk, he can take people a lot further down that path than Bush did.Well, Obama is smarter than Bush, but I'm not sure that's an advantage where conservatives are concerned. By winning you mean gaining control of their natural resources?well at least he has the gumption to win the bloody war and stop sending troops over with no clear idea what the heck they are supposed to be doing . he has sent a clear message Afghans must take responsibility for security.
Now with the front the Pakistanis have opened in SAT and Malakand we will in my opinion see some light at the end of the tunnel. it was high time we seized the initiative.
By winning you mean gaining control of their natural resources?
Me personally no. My government no i dont beleive so.
By winning i mean destroying any future capability of organisations such as Alqueda to set up training camps etc in the country , to Bring some sort of modern advantages to the Afghans that we take for granted like Education, fresh water and not being shot for shaving off their beards, and to eventually let the Afghan people have the opportunity to have a say in who governs them and how.
To bring to heel the Taliban and get them to realise that putting down their arms is the way forward for Afghanistan ( for the Afghan ones at least) and to get a decent life for Afghan farmers in an alternative way than harvesting Opium.
and if their are natural resources there they will need help in using them to increase their standard of living.and i mean in the same fashion we help anywhere else.
Armies were sent in to spread the love? What? The Taliban wiped out all the opium plantations, our armies reinstated them. What? the Taliban wiped out anything and everything , the only reason Opium was growing again was there was no one to stop the farmers and they needed A Living and the Taliban changed their minds and decided the revenue would help them in their war effort. There has never been enough troops on the ground to deal with the Opium. and if you have any information on ISAF reinstating the drug trade i would like to see it. BTW, the same fashion that the US and Canada helps anywhere else is the problem. Really?Sending humanitarian aid is one thing, militarily invading and occupying countries is quite another matter.
What I don't get about Obama's big plan is that we're supposedly going to completely eliminate al-Qaeda from Afghanistan. As long as al-Qaeda has the run of Pakistan, though, it doesn't really matter what you do in Afghanistan. And since nobody wants war with Pakistan, and the Pakistani government seems to be unwilling or unable to do anything about al-Qaeda in Pakistan, I'm not sure just what the point of all this is.

Congratulations Obama, you make a fine Christian Crusader.
I think calling him a Christian Crusader is even giving him too much credit. To me he doesn't appear to have any real personal conviction. The only thing I can figure is that the same men pulling Bush's strings are pulling Obama's.
