Christian persecution complex. Is there validity to it or not?

It is one thing to tell conservative Christians that their beliefs are no longer normative in the culture. That is not persecution. My question is whether or not progressive morality will soon become so ascendant that its dissenters (conservative Christians) will be effectively barred from participation in public life. Wave the pride flag or you're fired. Affirm that gender is a spectrum or be fined for hate speech. That sort of thing.
If you're worried conservative Christian viewpoints on sex, sexuality, gender will be treated how many people treat racism today, maybe that deserves a little unpacking as to why.

It seems to me that true Christians know how to respond and what remains is to see if they try to practice it:

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

...
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Well, those Christians do indeed try to force their faith
on others....banning abortions, banning contraception,
banning gay marriage, forcing religious oaths in courts
& classrooms.
And yet, with all this power...controlling over 90% of
all government's leaders....Christians still complain
of being persecuted by the very government they run.
Go figure.
We sure don't run this government.

It Aint Necessarily So

Yes, Christians are being persecuted in America. Here’s how we can respond
Is it a thing that is actually going on, or is it an overreaction?

Good idea for a thread.

No, Christian persecution in America is not a thing. There may be isolated examples of somebody persecuting a Christian, but on the order of the voting fraud being claimed for the last presidential election. You may find an example or two of it, but it didn't characterize the election, and persecution doesn't characterize the treatment of Christianity in America.

What first caught my eye was the image in the upper left of the yes-we're-persecuted article, presumable an example of Christians being persecuted. Christians steal American women's right to bodily autonomy and then cry persecution at the blowback:

145641_w_400_301.jpg
The Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, was vandalized hours after the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion nationwide, June 25, 2022. | Facebook/Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center

Christians cry persecution whenever they don't get to impose their religious beliefs on others. A baker refuses to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, gets blowback including boycotting which may have forced him to close his doors, and claims persecution. A county clerk in KY refuses to issue birth certificates to same-sex couples, loses her job, and cries persecution.

Then the author notes, "The definition of persecution includes “hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs." More than that. Hostility and ill-treatment also includes Christian homophobia, atheophobia, and misogyny. Non-Christians will never be able to equal that in return, nor do they want to. This guy will be relieved:

"Every single day that the idea of a god persists, more will disbelieve in His existence. There is simply nothing we can do about it but accept the inevitable and hope they do not treat Christians the way Christians have treated them." - Youth pastor (name withheld)

When I was born, an atheist couldn't teach, vote, coach, adopt, give expert testimony, or sit on a jury. Before that, they were imprisoned or killed. They still have a difficult time being elected to public office, but that may be easing up now. I think that all of the same is true for homosexuals. THAT'S persecution.

Then the author offers scripture as evidence of Christian persecution, since it was predicted. That sounds like a pretty weak argument for persecution. I don't suppose there are any scriptures predicting that Christians will persecute others as with inquisitions and witch burning, but maybe it was hard to see where they would ever have the power to do so when the religion was young, especially if one considered the return of Christ imminent.

If Christians are being persecuted, then they are the first empowered majority that that has happened to to my knowledge. The claim ranks with white male Americans making similar complaints about being persecuted.

This strikes me as an argument from privilege where you have a sense of that privilege being threatened. Let's rephrase that: Historically X group has had the freedom to use religion to say negative things and perform negative acts against group Y. Ethics have moved on, and group Y is being treated on a more equal footing and have a voice to counter false claims born of group X's privilege. Therefore group X is headed towards persecution? Do you see the irony in this? It boils down to "We used to be able to use religion to persecute X, but now we're being called out on it. Being called out on it is persecution."

You reminded me of this: "The problem with being privileged your whole life is that because you have had that privilege for so long, equality starts to look like oppression." - Mark Caddo

I would equate that with racism. There will always be racism but in America, though it is present, it is not the norm. Likewise, in America, there is persecution but it is not the norm.

However, the reality is that if one doesn't stand up when it is found (whether persecution or racism) - it will eventually be the norm.

So, when there is Christian persecution in America, we must learn how to respond.
Christians have enjoyed massive privilege for so long in the US that when they receive equal treatment they confuse it for persecution.

Christians are not persecuted in the US; if they are, it's very small and in the minority. In other countries, yes, Christianity can be outlawed. But American Evangelicals make up the majority. But wow, do they want to be persecuted. It's a complex for sure. Other Christians are literally being beheaded for their faith in different countries around the world, but Becky and Bramberly are upset because the mean gay man called them a bigot. That's not persecution. That's getting what you send out.

Christians are so privileged in this country it's not even funny. Do you have any idea how many churches are just within a mile from my home? I could lose a LOT if people in the rural West Virginian city I am in found out I'm a witch. Greg Locke is already riling people up.

Because I don't want to live in a world where dissent forms progressive/leftist dogmas becomes a thoughtcrime.

Forget the labels of leftists and progressive. Too many people are worried about the bucket they're trying to avoid. What is the actual substance that you agree with or disagree with?

But I do want to live in a world where stigmatizing people based on their gender identity or sexuality is treated the same way we treat stigmatizing people based on race. Called out, dissented and rejected without the excuse of 'a difference of opinion' when it's a difference of values.

I'm sure some people who still hold racist viewpoints view that reaction as 'liberal dogmatic thought crime' too.

In the US, Christian accomplishments, in all areas of culture, are called privilege, by the Left. This misdirect is used to make it sound like a bunch of low lives have cheated the system to gain power. The Christians then use that power to cheat and persecute others, so they can maintain their ill gotten gain. This really is a Progressive projection; Progressive operating mode.

The analogy is a champion sports team gets to the top of the food chain, based on their good players and a strong team, with a good focus and work ethic. It is a privilege to be the champion, but this placement is not due to throwing dice or Big Government edicts, but due to hard working individuals and a good team spirit.

The Progressives are jealous and wish all the accolades, but do not wish to do the work. There is a time proven honorable recipe for success, but the Progressives want to get the best without sacrifice and effort. So they come up with word games to make it sound like the end result is based on the birth right privilege, with no work involved. They make it sound like these are the sons and daughters of the company owner, who have it easy at birth.

It reminds me of school, where the bullies and the mean popular kids make fun and harass the smart kids. They claim the smart kids get good grades because they are the teachers' pet. It is really the other way around, but the misdirect rallies the bullies. Rather than work harder and rise above, they find it easier to place others in a hole, so they can appear to rise; relative reference self deception.

The Progressives try to compete with the har working status quo, with their new and often untested ideas. However, they still cannot win without some form of cheating using misinformation, indoctrination, harassment and Big Government. The Christians, in the spirit of sport, find ways to poke holes and overcome the cheat. There is then whining and renewed propaganda to make the hole even deeper for the Christians, so Progressive can appear to compete without all the effort that is the key to genuine success.

If you look at the gender nonsense, this fly by night idea appeared and was forced on everyone. The Left created their own version of a privileged class, by decree, out of nothing, without any pilot testing. There was a push to slow down and go through the normal steps of social acceptance; pilot test without obligations or force. However, if you did not just buy into this, you are a hater; guilt manipulation.

Then there is now whining and back to the drawing board, not to collect data, but to find another way to cut the line. This induced delay is there to allow time for self reflection, to make sure this major change is more than a fad. Fads needs to move fast, before the novelty expires and goes way organically. What is natural will find a way to grow even if delayed, longer. Natural will not need all the extra propping up of the group hug. That is usually what synthetic needs.

Why the Christian Persecution Complex Has to Stop — In the Shift

No. Christian persecution is overblown.

Yes, Christians are being persecuted in America. Here’s how we can respond

Yes. Christians are indeed persecuted.

Odds are some make a big deal out of nothing. That said many on these forums have denied that being forced to violate your beliefs as a condition of having a job or business is just fine. That being banned from meeting and taking part in your religious practices is all well and good.

Based on that kind of criteria there would be little to be upset about except a lynching which I don't see any reports of.

In a nation founded on concepts of personal and religious liberty its a pretty sad day when laws are passed to interfere with the religious freedom of people.
