Christianity Does Not Equal Religion!

What if someone has a problem with specifically your religion?

I know for a fact that I hate storm's.
You know, due to dueteronomy 12:6

Yeah. It does get on my nerves when people make vague overtures towards hating religion, but don't specify which religion they hate. People can be so inconsiderate.

Wait. You thought Storm was a Christian?

Im getting sick of this! People are blaming god for the flood! What God? Can we please label the God. People are disgusted with religion, and give quotes from the bible, the bible is the source of world religion!

All i am saying, is that think before you post, because if you do not like something about that religion, then let us know it is just that religion. It does get on my nerves.

I don't like to rank religions, i dislike them all equally, thats why i use "God."

It very well may bring peace of mind for some, but it caused me to begin to fall into a depression-like state. If it drives people to do good for society, then that is great. However, religion is unnecessary for this kind of action. I believe that it has been a net negative for society as a whole.
That may be true, but religion has a different effect for each person, i suppose.

If Christianity does not equal religion, there is no religion in the whole world.

Ben
You dont get what i mean... People (atheists generally) use arguements to refute God and argue religion etc. They use things like the flood in the Bible, and expect this to stick to all religious groups. OTHER religions have no such thing as the ""flood"

They need to know, when arguing things, Christianity does not equal all the worlds religions.

I think what he's trying to say is that a lot of people(atheists in particular) equate all the religions of the world with Christianity, that is, they seem to think that if you believe in a god of some kind or call yourself religious that also means you must be Christian and that there is no other possible religion you could be. My experience with people who make such assumptions has been that not only do they seem to assume that every religious person is Christian, they seem to assume that every religious person is a narrow-minded, bible-thumping, constantly proselytizing, extremist Christian and thus believe that religion is the cause of all things bad because they think all religious people are like those extremist Christians who want to convrt and control everybody. They don't seem to realize that such people are really a relatively very small minority, they're just a minority that screams very, very, loudly.

You know for a fact that you hate something you obviously know nothing about? Interesting. Do you also know for a fact that you hate Beta Ray Bill?

Pretty much.

I think the most common manifestation is someone coming along and saying "I don't believe in God, it's a load of rubbish." but when quizzed on why they hold this opinion they immediately give things like the flood, the garden of eden, creation in 7 days etc as their reasoning.
Sure, that applies to 2 or 3 religions (depending on you interpretation) but holds no relevance to any other - it's like saying "I hate all fruit, it's disgusting" and basing that opinion on a single moldy apple you ate as a kid.

I think Deuteronomy 12:2-3 is much more interesting:

Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:

And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place

I mean...wowie, such carnage. :D

Well with all due respect to our young Don, most of the crowd here is North American, or at least Western, obviously they have Christianity on their mind.
I believe that in many places atheists/agnostics/secular people have issues with the respective religious practices of their society.

Most Hindu scriptures were written Sanskrit for the first time. They were translated into different languages for those who could not understand Sanskrit.

Just because most people have Christianity in mind, doesent stop them from labelling their posts accordingly to the respective religion.

So why not say "Christianity?"

Well, a good guess of mine would be that to many people all religions are equivalently valid, or equivalently interesting, or equivalently relevant, and to others they are all equivalently a damaging part of human society.
personally I believe all of the above.

People come to this conclusion without substantial research.
