Christians are hypocrites when they use the Old Testament to rebuke people

Well that's just your problem you think the Bible needs to be updated when people need to be updated. It's thousands of years old and people still haven't caught up!

Well, people have surpassed the bible with respect to slavery and rape, so there is SOME progress at least...

... too bad the bible hasn't kept up with those subjects...

No one is capable but God. That's why God is to be relied on rather than humans.

Only if by "relied on" you mean "god completely ignores everything" then sure.

That's been my experience at least.. and for everyone I know-- most of whom claim to be True Christians™

I see, well ... God listens to me. He's not a Santa Claus obviously just granting all wishes and what not. Oh, you want a Lamborghini? Coming right up.

But how many times do people tell true stories of how they prayed in a time of need and it was heard?

Ain't that cute. You actually think-- that the Ultimate Creator of Everying...

... actually stoops so low...

... to listen to little old ...

....you.

How on EARTH do you manage to be so special from day to day? That must have swelled your ego to the size of a planet.

He's not a Santa Claus obviously just granting all wishes and what not. .

Well, according to the Bible? Pretty much that is exactly what is written will happen:

"Anything you ask in the name of Jesus will be granted"

So, yeah... that kinda does sound like Santa Claus, only without the red-and-white felt stocking ... But nevermind that..

Oh, you want a Lamborghini? Coming right up..

See above: The bible places ONE (1) CONDITION: You must invoke your Magic Wish with the vocal component "Jesus".

THAT'S IT! You cannot twist this one, and use the bible to support your twisting.

But how many times do people tell true stories of how they prayed in a time of need and it was heard?

oooh! Oooh! I got this!

It is EXACTLY the same rate as RANDOM CHANCE!

What do I win?

If you want to claim that the times a Christian's prayers were answered as evidence for your God, then by the same "logic" you would have to count the number of times that prayers were not answered as evidence against your God. I do not think that you will like the results.

Haha alright ... God listens to anyone who has faith and whose heart is right.

Who was He talking to? Not just to anyone. He was talking to the spiritually mature. Those who pray according to the will of God with faith.

That's why we stress that the scriptures are spiritually discerned. Milk for babies; meat for those who are mature.

Not the stories I've heard over and over.

Your absolute arrogance grows ever larger... as is your absolute judgement of everyone else. You have NO IDEA what my faith was, back in the day-- yet you say ugly things like the above, as if you DO.

What was that about 'pride' that your Jesus warned you about, again?

Humility?

That's right... with pride and without humility, you so ain't getttin' in heaven.

Too bad.
Who was He talking to? Not just to anyone. He was talking to the spiritually mature. Those who pray according to the will of God with faith..

Spin-spin-spin-spin the FACT that you have no leg to stand on.

The promise was ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT conditions-- apart from the name "Jesus".

That's why we stress that the scriptures are spiritually discerned. Milk for babies; meat for those who are mature..

Spin-spin-spin-spin. And back to ugly JUDGEMENT AND PRIDE on your part.

ooops!

Not the stories I've heard over and over.

Selective memory? Yep.

And you were warned about using a No True Scotsman fallacy and what did you do?

More of the same.

Not the stories I've heard over and over.

Well of course. You only listen to only one side. Do you want links on proper studies?

This has nothing to do with whether someone is Christian or not. It could be anyone.

You still do not understand your error. You are in no position to say whether or not someone else is a Christian. By the standards you are applying to others you are not a true Christian either. Your Bible even warns you not to do that.

I didn't say anyone was or wasn't a Christian. Again you could be a Christian and your heart isn't right. You could be an atheist and your heart just so happens to be right. This has nothing to do with being a Christian or not.

That amounts to the same thing.

the furious back-pedaling commences.

It was clear enough what you posted, and what you strongly wished to imply.

I grew up around folks such as yourself; I know exactly what you were saying there-- I literally heard that sort of talk all through my childhood.

I believe we are guided by the Holy Spirit as to what is pertinent and what is not. It would be hypocrisy if we lived by old testament law but we don't. We live by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.

Including Ephesians 6:5, and Colossians 3:22?

How about 1 Corinthians 14:34?

Or my favorite: Matthew 10:34

Are these the words to be living by? Or words that modern folk recognize as being Evil?

I think the problem lies in "impose", "belittle", "demean" [evangelizing]. Does not matter if they shoot with OT or NT. Christians had it coming when people shoot back IMHO.

I believe evangelizing is bringing good news that a person can be free from sin. For a person holding on to their sins there is only bad news.

I believe I don't care what modern people think. Most modern people are living in sin.

You are lying. Do no twist my words and you do not know me.
