That very well maybe the case in operations that might not absolutely need blood transfusions. However, as all cases are not the same as in massive blood lose where there is no other alternative to blood transfusion, I'd say the responsible and ethical life saving option is the one that takes precedent.

and sometimes even with blood transfusions the patient still dies.

The issue for us is whether we break Gods law in an attempt to save our life, or find an alternative way to save our life. We've found alternatives...blood is not the only product out there saving lives.

If you are convinced that only blood saves life, you are very mistaken. And if you dont think patients have the right to decide the sorts of treatments they will accept, then you might as well throw all our rights out the window because the right to self determination is a basic human right.

These doctors work extremely hard to avoid circumstances that jeopardize a patient's health. Yes, things do go wrong and there is a medical avenue that addresses improper handling of patients. What I don't understand is putting doctors at odds with the full spectrum of those procedures they learned in medical school.

The doctors are no masters over our life are they? We dont live or die because of them.

Sometimes they cannot help patients, sometimes they can. But they do not have the right to tell me what sort of medical intervention i will or wont have. Its my body and my right to decide.

And the same goes for my children. They are my responsibility no one else's.

i suppose in the event that a blood transfusion was absolutely necessary, as my friend the pediatrician said,"The courts have sided with the doctor."

Separation of church and state is a US Constitutional right that ways heavily in such cases.

By the way, Jesus, in the last supper, gives his disciples wine that is symbolic of his blood and says,"Drink...". Now wine is not blood, but its symbology is unquestionably intriguing in former discussions of drinking blood.

and unfortunately they wont accept liablity when something goes wrong. Who is the one who has to live with the consequences? We are. They go home back to their normal lives and we have lost our child as a result of their mishandling and forced procedures.

Thats not a win win type of situation. Have you not heard of the people who are exposed to life threatening illnesses as a result of transfusions? Or what about when the persons body rejects the blood (which is really an organ)?

Medical procedures should not be forced on anyone, adult or child. I dont care how many PhD's you have after your name, its not your choice to make imo.

Pegg, you said this:

The issue for us is whether we break Gods law in an attempt to save our life, or find an alternative way to save our life. We've found alternatives...blood is not the only product out there saving lives.

Expanders and oxygen therapy may be insufficient if one has lost over half of their red blood cells. Red blood cells are required to properly oxygenate the body.

Though I would never disagree with you - whenever alternative therapy is available and feasible as per a situation, it should be utilized, if these are your wishes.

You don't have to break God's law, if you deem the "consumption" of blood products to be against God's law. However, your doctor and other medical professionals are not obligated to violate the ehtical codes that they are bound to in their profession, either.

Realistically, a lot of blood transfusions are administered in the US as a result of an emergency situation, where a patient has bled profusely and there's question as to the the body's ability to remain oxygenated.

Blood loss has to be stopped. Volume needs to be restored. Will expanders and oxgyen therapy properly push the remaining blood products in the body to do their job effectively enough? That's the question.

I wouldn't fault a medical professional for erring on the side of caution, especially with a child.

I wouuld fault a medical professional for ignorning your wishes altogether.

Yes, but the statistics prove that blood transfusions do save lives to a greater degree than they don't.

This is true. Did you see the video I posted that covers these remarkable options?

If you are convinced that only blood saves life, you are very mistaken. And if you dont think patients have the right to decide the sorts of treatments they will accept, then you might as well throw all our rights out the window because the right to self determination is a basic human right.

If you are convinced there are no benefits regarding blood transfusions, your mistaken.

The doctors are no masters over our life are they? We dont live or die because of them.

No, doctors just try to maximize the well-being of their patients.

Sometimes they cannot help patients, sometimes they can. But they do not have the right to tell me what sort of medical intervention i will or wont have. Its my body and my right to decide.

As an adult, doctors do adhere to their patients wishes.

And the same goes for my children. They are my responsibility no one else's.

This is where it gets a little sticky.

It's not always the doctors fault when things go wrong in surgery.

Thats not a win win type of situation. Have you not heard of the people who are exposed to life threatening illnesses as a result of transfusions? Or what about when the persons body rejects the blood (which is really an organ)?

Again, not all situations are going to be a win win situation. Be happy that someone with medical degree is there when you or your child needs them.

Medical procedures should not be forced on anyone, adult or child. I dont care how many PhD's you have after your name, its not your choice to make imo.

You have the right to self determination, but the child has rights too. In the event that your child is in absolute need of a blood transfusion, doctors and courts have ruled in favor of saving the child's life regardless of your religious believes.

Yeah, I find celebrating with others to be quite spiritual. It gives others and yourself an opportunity to reflect on relationships, which gives us a sense of connection.
