I'm not quite sure how this came to be.
@Unveiled Artist you are saying that I shouldn't use a word that the Bible uses because its offensive to people who associate the words with discrimination? Is that what you're saying?
No. I never said that.
I said words like homosexual, n*, pagan, and like words have negative connotations.
I also said what "you" are doing is stereotyping.
The bible can't "stereotype" because in that period, there was no knowledge of sexual orientation and no one knew that two people of the same sex could actually love each other back then. Many of us know now our hearts aren't defined by our sex, so the points of view are totally different.
Anyway. I'm sure you're a nice person.
If I quote the Bible, which as a Christian is my only source of reference, then I will use the words that are contained in that book because I am not at liberty to change them for the sake of being politically correct. I can't find the "N" word in the Bible, nor can I find racism against people of color. I do find false worship mentioned, but not "trailer trash" or any allusion to such people. I will just tell it like it is. Those who wish to take offense will, no matter how I phrase it.
When you say it in context it sounds like trailer trash to many. So if you said "you homosexuals are sinners because of X" it's an insult and stereotype.
If god told you to take the lives of thousands of people as he did in the OT, would you?
If I am going to give my views on what forms the basis for my beliefs, then "homosexual" is the translation of the original words.....which mean "Sodomite" (those who practice anal sex) and "effeminate" which denotes a male who wears soft clothing like a woman. Both passive and active partners in homosexual acts are referred to in those terms. Those who act, and those who submit to the act, are equally guilty of sin in the eyes of the Creator. I cannot change that to facilitate a better response from those who fit that description. That is not my job....my job is to inform those who are interested about what the Bible says, without 'tip toeing' around the issue. In Israel, under God's Law this was a capital offense. I can't change that either.
That's fine... that's your thing. That's not my point though.
e who are not interested in what the Bible says can simply ignore my comments. That is their prerogative.
I am really sick of the whole "gay" thing to tell you the truth, (they destroyed a perfectly good word IMO) and I wish everyone would just stop talking about it. No amount of talking is going to change God's opinion on this issue, or change the minds of those who wish to engage in the lifestyle. It will never be "normal" to me because sex has a noble purpose and 'gay sex' has no place in that. We only have gender for reproductive purposes, there is no other reason for it, which means it was not given to simply enjoy it for pleasure alone.....that is my opinion.
What's the "gay" thing? I never heard of that before. I mean (using me as a brief example), I just wake up, get something to eat, put my jogging clothes on, and work my computer the rest of the day, meditate, and go to sleep. That's most my day. I don't think about being gay 99.9999% of the time as most gay people...
What's the gay thing? (Lifestyle/gay thing/etc are stereotypes)
This has (I hope) have nothing to do with sex.
To see these disgusting displays such as the one we have in Sydney every year, turns my stomach TBH. What would happen if "straight" people held such parades, openly expressing and promoting lewd sexual practices in public...and proud of it? What on earth would persuade a family to attend such a gathering with their young children? It would not be so offensive if it was not so openly sexual.
Oh, I don't know about other countries. Generation gap has a lot to do with it too. In the US we're pretty cool about it-at least here in the southern states where the bible is pretty influential in the things we're "allowed" to do.
What you're doing is projecting your views on gay people you see in Sydney on all gay people.
That, and assuming what you see is how the rest of us view sex.
It's like my saying all JW are X because I saw it on television, heard people's stories, and read them online. I actually met and talk with other JW and some people actually nice.
So much for stereotypes?
