Christless Christianity

Let me ask you a question: When you pray, do you pray to Jesus or do you pray to God (or both, since in a lot of Christian faiths, they are one and the same as of now- including myself).

If I put it that way, then I suppose I do worship Jesus, after all.

I think we should follow the Lord's Prayer by addressing the Father in Jesus’ name. However, Stephen prayed directly to the Lord Jesus Christ just before he was killed. I do believe the orthodox view of the Triune God is extremely important. It's okay to worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity is a great tension that you do not need to resolve, but accept in Faith as truth.

We are not supposed to worship Jesus Himself, but God. Yes, I believe that Jesus is God- I always have, but He gave up His divinity as a human on Earth. Therefore, we are supposed to worship God, not Jesus.

well this depends on if you beleive

Jesus was God
Christ entered Jesus like some ghost (kinda akin to channeling)
Jesus and Christ are the same being
Jesus was just a man
Jesus was just some special man

etc.

these views have been debated for centuries...

I used to accept the Trinity as total truth, but for a while I started to question it. I still believed that Jesus is God, but as a three essences in one body- I started having a hard time with it. I haven't actually resolved this problem. But I haven't rejected The Trinity.

How do you know?

My superstition could be better than indifferent hate filled people who wouldnt care if you got a glass of water to save your life who had NO "superstition"..

I bet you would change your mind if I was the one able to hand you a glass of water.Or one to your dying child or wife..

You would LOVE my superstitions then..

My superstion is to treat someone the way I would like to be treated.

So if it weren't for your superstition, you'd care less about the plight of others? Is that what you're saying?

Do you see it that way? You know that before I became a Christian, I cared about the suffering. I have met very few religious people who believe that the faithless don't care- most of us know better.

That's interesting Christine. I've never heard of a Christian that doesn't worship Jesus.

I was also one of those for a while.

But they kept saying I wasn't really a christian.
So I just finally gave up the whole thing all together.

"I AM a christian. You're NOT. I am. No, you're not. Ok fine, I'm not."

the trinity:

a book has a cover
a book has a spine
a book has pages

Yet it is just one book.

A cover, without pages or a spine... would you call that a book?

A spine, without pages or a cover... would you call that a book?

Pages, without a spine or a cover... would you call that a book?

Yet with the trinity, people refer to "God the Father" "God the son" and "God the holy spirit"...

The idea that God is split into thirds is very much not monotheism.

"At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow..." Sounds like worship to me.

"All our righteousness is like filthy rags", is found in the middle of a Biblical poem in Isaiah (Isa 64:4-9).

It seems to me that Christians have been promoting the belief of Jesus having died for the sins of believers to the extent of compromising significance of the commandments.

In Islam it takes faith and deeds to be a Muslim and expect success on Judgement Day.

Many Christians today are taught that deeds are filthy. It makes me wonder if this is trully word of God or personal poem of Isaiah. What is the motive of doing anything good or even have the commandments if all deeds are filthy? This makes me question if such verses are actually word of God or human mind.

Additionally, we see many churches clearly putting up signs saying 'Come Worship Jesus with Us'

If Pres. Obama when his faith was questioned he said without mincing words 'I worship Jesus'.

So Jesus is worshipped my millions.

If by misanthrope you mean a true hater of the concept of religious faith, then you've got me pegged.

Do you hate organized religions or religious institutions and are you open to the concept God? I don't think Jesus approved of the religious institution of his days. He called some of the members of the OT Jewish believing community as children of the devil.
