Why isn't feeding your kid junk food illegal? That does significantly more harm to their health.

Meh, if harm isn't being done, I cannot come up with any legitimate grounds to object to someone else's way of life. And even if harm is being done, I recognize I'm making ethnocentric projections of my own values onto their way of life, which is not unbiased, objective, or fair. I like cultural diversity. For the most part, I'm quite content to leave others to their way of life without demanding they change.

Jayhawker i do mean it, please do explain why it has to be done.

And quint, how is cutting of a piece of the body for no reason not causing damage?

I can have some moles removed from my skin, and technically that is "causing damage" since I'm cutting off a piece of the body for no reason. As I understand it, in no way does circumcision cause lasting harm or medical issues. From a risk assessment standpoint, there's nothing notably dangerous about the practice at all. I see no reason to get up in arms about it. And even if I did, it's their way of life, not mine, and I will leave them to it.

Mutilating a child in cold blood is WRONG if it is only done for religious reasons. Boys have died after this procedure, it should only be carried out for a medical condition.

Can we think about respecting cultural diversity? Apparently not.

Ah well, my naive idealism has been dashed again!

Throwing acid in someones face if they hang out with boys might be seen as a cultural diversity. Its both severely damaging the body.

How can it truly be your ideals to accept mutilation? My ideals are that everyone deserves integrity of their body and should never have their bodies damaged without consent.

Yes. Because throwing acid in someone's face is totally on the same level as removing the foreskin of a penis. It's sooooo damaging!

At least make a comparison that is equivalent, like removal of a mole. I suspect people get up in arms about this because it's a penis, and penises are "private." I doubt a big hullabaloo would be raised about a parent getting an unsightly mole removed from their kid without their consent. And besides, like it or not, parents are legally responsible for their kids until they come of age and have every right to make medical decisions for them for whatever reason. Until it crosses the line of child abuse - which removal of foreskin is most certainly NOT - I have no objections whatsoever.

Circumcision for medical reasons is perfectly okay, it is however wrong if you do it for religious reasons without the consent of the kid. And freedom of religion doesnt allow you to mutilate children for no reason.
