Colander Hats on IDs: Legitimate Religious Statement or Atheists Acting Childish?

So... having a religious obligation that requires you to wear a colander on your head in ID photos but not anywhere else isn't that far outside the normal range.

NO, but is seems to miss the point.

Satire (in wearing a colander upon one's head) especially is NOT an overt expression of piety or devotion to ANY faith-based religion.

That's kinda the point.

Wearing silly hats to somehow prove your devotion to a "god", is THE silly point in the beginning.

People that wear colanders on their heads are NOT seriously devoted to anything.

Understand?

As a "weak atheist", I demand the right to weak viewpoints!

Another thought: Why should hat wearing be a religious right?
Certainly, secular folk should have the same rights as those
who claim God tells them to wear a hat.

Never-mind; an atheist may of free-will wear any kitchen utensil over his head he likes but he will remain vulnerable of good and reasonable arguments, always.

But under what circumstances is the colander supposed to be worn? What does it signify? If he just wears it for the ID picture, why wear it all? Afterall, most people aren't going to view it as a protest, especially when you are doing the exact same thing you are claiming to protest. And when you protest something that does not cause any harm to another, something that got under you skin because you let it and not because it caused you harm or infringed on your own rights, really just makes you look like an ***.

No, they claim Pastafarianism.
Which is, upfront, a self-admitted faux religion. Do they even have established tenants that govern the wearing of a colander?

Not as such. Orthodox practice does however follow the well-established tradition of wearing it upside down and with no pasta inside.

As the ancient sages of 2005 taught us to, you know.

But we do not really discriminate. All are equal at the FSM's eyed appendages.

Then they're not atheists. It's called "moving the goalposts."

So it is your claim, and please note that your claims are not necessarily representative of all Pastafarians, that The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a god?

That would be a most interesting claim since I do not know a single Pastafarian who claims/believes/thinks that The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a god.

I think the atheists [who wear the colanders] would have been better off if they'd wore, for example, fishing hats: To show they fish. Or perhaps a graduate cap- to show themselves as college graduates. I guess what I am saying is that maybe they should have worn a hat that has some kind of meaning. Colanders have no meaning unless the person likes to drain pasta (I wouldn't drain the pasta in a colander from someone's head until I washed it, though).

I have never actually met a Pastafarian. I've seen their signs, but I've yet to personally meet one.

I am one, when it suits me. Usually it lasts fifteen minutes each time, and I suppose it happened about a dozen times in so many years.

We are very liberal and uncomplicated, you know.

Reform Pastafarianism? Well, it is about time, too. ;)

Think of us collander church pastafarians as the Franciscans of the Atheist Church sect. But I guess the FSM looks after all of us, even those that are not up to the task of wearing colanders.

Christine..... ! For shame!
That would be so boring boring..... if an atheist wants to cut a dash on their driving licence, then they need to fashion up with something trendy......

This lady is going to get told to take the pic again, because folks can't b-gger about with such important docs, but otherwise........ cool.

Oh, it is a religion alright. It just does not take itself at all seriously, at least when it comes to ritual duties.

No, it most certainly is not. Its mockery, pure and simple. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a political movement, not a religious one.
