Yes!!!

And with Robert Downey Jr. no less. One of my fav actors.

Funny, I remember thinking he would have made a great Spiderman if he'd been the right age for the part.

I smell something....
I must say that I am :drool:ing with anticipation for the Iron Man movie. I am also looking forward to the new Fantastic 4 movie. I will add that I will be extremely disappointed if Galacticus is not in this movie. I have not heard one way or the other yet.

I don't know if you've heard Turk ol' buddy, but the rumor is that Galactus is going to appear as a giant storm cloud.

Not too happy about this. Haven't seen such a misrepresentative decision in casting since they employed “Mr. Mom” as Batman. The only thing that Robert Downey Jr. has in common with Tony Stark was that they were once substance abusers. Suit looks good though.

I'm looking foward to the Wolverine movie, especially since Hugh Jackman is playing him.
I'm also wanting to see the Iron Man movie.

I totally disagree. I think R.D.jr. can pull it off.

Wonderring though, who would you pick (bearing in mind that Errol Fllyn's been dead for awhile now)?

Don’t get me get wrong, I like Robert Downey Jr, just not as Tony Stark. Today’s superheroes movies have improved, especially in the area of costumes and special effects, so I am not as worried that these aspects will be fairly realized (a good example was Ghost Rider) but not much thought is really put into the believability of the alter egos (again, Ghost Rider is a good example). I would rather see a competent unknown actor who looks the part than an incompetent/competent well known actor who is doing it because the movie needs a star attraction or the actor needs the work.

That’s a good question and if I can think of someone I will get back to you but this is what we have to work with..

I completely agree. I think, as you said, a talented unknown who fits the part is always best case scenario. Too many familiar faces in a fantasy movie tend to ruin the fantasy.

Also an unknown who just scored the lead role in a major motion pic would almost certainly be more prone to take the role seriously than an established actor who's just doing it for the money (and walks around with his tongue in his cheek through most of his out-of-costume scenes).

But, hollywood being what it is we can't expect too much. There are a few actors--DeNiro, Pacino, and (IMO) Bruce Willis--who can step into a role and make you forget everything else you've ever seen them in, and I've seen Downey pull that off more often than not.

Hmmmm..I'm thinking I'm from a different generation than you are. The Tony Stark I knew (we're talking 60's, 70's) doesn't look much like the guy in this picture (what's with the Clint Eastwood squint and the goatee?).

I'm looking forward to the movie in any case. Anything even remotely resembling the comic book world I grew up with takes me back and lets me be 14 again for a cpl hours, and that's always well worth the $8

What was interesting was the unknown that played the latest Superman. This actor looked the part with uncanny reflections to Christopher Reeve. Too bad the script stunk. Another interesting find was Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Hugh was really not considered a household name at that time but really nailed the role. Too bad he wasn't more careful before accepting that Van Helsing role. One could have an unknown play the lead role but be surrounded by popular actors.

No I am from the same generation that you are and a 60' or 70's movie take on any superhero would be refreshing but I think the owners of the characters want to keep current motion pictures current so that they can interest new readers and tie them in to their line of comics. I have also witnessed the blasphemous reversal of this when the X-men movie came out the comic creators stopped putting their heroes in their respected costumes in favor of an all leather clad team that represented the style of the moive. Spiderman is also back in his black costume to tie-in with the live-action movie. The only exception to this rule would be a movie made on DC's anti-western hero Jonah Hex and about 15 years ago Clint Eastwood could have very well have been a shoe-in.

Hollywood has to stay away from these movies and let the people who create them, create. I think it was this forum, someone mentioned that the powers that be made Sam Raimi put Venom in the new Spiderman movie. I believe it is important that fans of comics direct their comic book movies with the help of fandom, not with Hollywood executives who continually prompt directors with formulaic script recipes. I don't know if you have ever seen some of those fan movies done by independant filmakers but they are brilliant and even though they do not have a long running time you can tell these people have a real respect for the characters and the genre.

I was a little dissapointed when I first saw Jackman's Wolverine, thought he was too sensitive (Logan's supposed to be the a borderline psychopath). All in all though I thought he did a good job.

Yeah, unfortuntely in such an expensive medium money doesn't just talk, it usually gets the last word.

These indie films sound interesting. Where do you find them?
