Converting believers.

In Matthew, Christ sent his apostles out to tell the world of him. But why is it some religious believe that it is their duty to try and convert Christians to their way of thinking? I've had people knock on my door and tell me if I don't believe in what they believe, I'm going to hell. I believe what Christ meant was going to places where they do not know of Christ,

I've had some that knock on my door just to invite me to their church. I think that's great! I once had a man follow me from the door of Wal-Mart to my truck telling me I'm not saved. Excuse me? I have my beliefs, but some do not respect that. If someone wishes to 'talk God', I love that. But to tell me, as some think according to another thread, that they are the 1 true religion, I find offensive

I agree...I don't think it makes any sense preaching to the choir... kind of gives me the impression that for some...it's not really about spreading the gospel at all but seeking those willing to conform...

Oh...and I too have been told that I'm going to hell...

Isn't poaching members from another congregation considered something of a sport by some people?

The apostles were proclaiming the work of Christ to people who beleived something. What is the difference between worshipping an idol or participating in a fertility cult and worshipping a false idea of who Christ is that contradicts what the apostles taught?

In my book, if they truly believed that, I would want to have nothing to do with their religion.

I don't know about that, but it would imply to me that they have nothing better to do.........:D

Then what is the situation for those who have heard of Jesus and yet do not except him as Christ and their Savior and all that?

Hmmm nice brother........

If I were in your shoes, I would be tempted to reply "That doesn't sound like a very Christian attitude"...but maybe you just can't say those sorts of things where you live.

I don't go around telling people that they are going to Hell if they don't become Mormons, and I don't even believe that, but I do believe that my church is the 1 true church on the Earth. I'm sorry if that offends you, but your reaction has no bearing on my belief system. As a simplistic example: If it were to offend you that I believed that 2+2 = 4 because you believed it equalled 5, it wouldn't change the fact that 2+2 actually does = 4.

I have been on a mission to Peru, and talked mostly with Catholics, although there are quite a few Protestants, JW's, Seventh Day Adventists, etc that I talked to as well. I never once told anyone that they were going to Hell, but I did believe that they needed to hear my message. They could accept it or reject it if they wanted to, but I shared it with anyone that I could.

You know what? At the end of the day.....the bottom line is: The almighty, the GOD that gave us this beautiful Earth (Which man is doing his best to destroy) the beautiful animal life, and everything to enjoy life....that same GOD will make a perfect judgement based on peoples hearts. It is a very freeing feeling to leave the judging to the perfect judge..knowing that NO one deserving of life will be left out!!!

I'm not in the business of judging, which is exactly why I will offer the message I have to all, reguardless of their current religious beliefs. I'll leave the judgement to God. He's much more intelligent than I am.

SL, But to me, your religion 2+2=5. To say that your religion is the 1 true religion, I find that statement to be quite arrogant and pompous. Has it ever occured to you that maybe their are different religions to reach different people? My religion is right for me. But never would I state it's the one true religion. But a few will jump at the chance to be 'Gods' too... As long as you pay 10. % ;)

I'm not saying you have to agree with me. I'm just giving an explanation as to why I feel it is appropriate to try and convert people that already have a religion, which is what this thread is about.

I want to tell people about what Jesus did for them, but I would never tell anyone they're going to hell or that they are not saved. Only they and God know that. People who tell others they're going to hell need to take their own inventory. I never go out trying to proselytize, but if someone asks me about my faith, I'm tickled to tell them about salvation through Christ.
