Convince me to vote (seriously!)

an anarchist

Your local loco.
Hello. I just checked to see if I am registered to vote and I am. I voted Libertarian in the 2016 US presidential election so I registered that year.

I haven’t voted since then since I view voting as an act of aggression (this is not the thread to debate this point). But I am no pacifist.

@Quintessence brought up the issue of abortion being perhaps their most important issue this election in another thread/conversation with me. It got me thinking about actually voting.

I see voting as an act of aggression like I said but I do believe in using aggression to defend yourself.

So I wanted to start this conversation with asking which issues are the most important to you when it comes to a candidate’s policies? Abortion rights seems to be a pressing issue in many people’s minds. What other important issues are there that perhaps take precedent over other ones?

I live in Arizona so my vote is super important. I say that with sarcastic italics but they say the swing states are what decide the election. AZ went Trump the first time then not Trump the second time.

Care to make one final pitch for your preferred presidential candidate? I swear I am not trolling or anything, I am serious about being willing to vote.

My thoughts so far are this:
Trump: says he’s anti deep state - got shot in sketch circumstances so that sorta gives his claim some juice in my eye.
Harris: nice to immigrants
Please help me out here I live under a rock I was not planning on voting so I haven’t really been looking into their policies or whatever.

I am unsure how I feel about abortion. I’ve created several threads on the topic now and they have been lengthy and my views have fluctuated and are still under consideration.

I don't want to tell you who to vote for.

I actually care more about the 'little seats'. The President is who we'll get to hear people complain about the most for the next 4 years(it doesn't matter who it is, there will be complaining). But a lot of those representing at state levels are going to be the ones to make the changes where its most felt.

My vote goes for whoever I think will harm the least amount of people.

Oh shucks I forgot there is more than just the president to vote for on Election Day huh? Gosh the dang political signs on the street corners just block my view of oncoming traffic they don’t even say anything useful they just say “VOTE FOR ME!”

Seems I got more research to do than I anticipated. No problem

Yes. I’m coming to the conclusion that I can perhaps use a vote for good, even though my policy for the past several years have been not to vote. Who will harm the least is something I want to get closer to understanding I hope

Abortion is the #1 issue in this election.
It has even surpassed inflation.

I don't know if that's good or bad.

Do you suppose it’s equally as important for both sides? I think so.

Anti-abortionist believe that a genocide of the unborn is going on. That’s huge.

Pro-choicers believe the lives of the female population is at risk and their rights gone. That’s huge.

It’s an issue that directly affects Americans domestically, and people tend to care more about domestic issues than international issues just that makes sense.

All everyone is taking about is..
1. Stopping abortions.
2. Allowing abortions.

What's most important in IMO
3. Steps to prevent needing abortions.

May I just say that I am a bit surprised that you have not made your mind at this point in time, @an anarchist ?
My mind has been made not to vote this whole time, and that’s barely changing. So I haven’t really looked into the candidates at all cuz I’ve been like “meh, they both suck.”

I remember Trump hit me with that fat stimulus check though last time he was president

There are more than just Democrat/Republican for options.

You can also pencil someone in.

Can I interest you in voting for Alice Cooper?

In terms of direct, real-world impact on your day-to-dayblife, municipal government is the level that has the biggest influence.

Depending on the situation where you are, these elections can have very narrow margins, too. Every vote can matter. In the last municipal election here, the winning margin for several ward councillor seats in the bigger city near me were decided by less than 100 votes.

I appreciate the sentiment, but If I was voting on principle I would simply not vote.

I would definitely be on board for an Alice Cooper presidency.

But if I vote for president I will vote for one of the big two. Example, if I vote Harris, that will balance out my dad’s vote for Trump who he is voting for cause he doesn’t like illegal “aliens” for whatever reason. So it’d be like I feel more that my vote is actually having a tangible effect by voting for one of the big 2. Especially in AZ. If I was in Cali or something I don’t think I’d bother cuz the results there are a given.

I heard my great grandparents used to happily go off to the polls together to "cancel out each other's vote".

I love how they were so jolly about it.

I look at it this way, if you don't vote you don't have reason to complain about whoever wins.

Of course that doesn't stop people but i see it as a credibility thing.

Anyway, it up to you whether you vote or not
OTOH you can't be blamed either.

If things go to crap under Trump, blame Trump voters.
If things go to crap under Harris, blame Harris voters.

I will vote, but vote or not..... the electoral college is what actually counts and it does not have to agree with the popular vote at all
