I can see why the disparity.
The gaiter wearers I've seen have the things either under
their nose, or the fit around the nose has huge gaps.
I tried the gaiter approach. It seemed useful only if I
have it sitting between the bridge of me schnoz & me
glasses. (It's exactly as uncomfortable as you imagine.)

A retired physician who is advising on COVID said that the problem with gaiters and bandanas is that they're single layers of cloth and thus not as good as multi-layer masks.

So it seems they're better than nothing but far from the best choice.

Coronavirus will be 'with us forever' - scientist

Coronavirus will be present "forever in some form or another", a member of the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) has said.

Sir Mark Walport said people would need to be vaccinated at regular intervals.

His comments come after the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said he hoped the pandemic would be over within two years, as the Spanish flu had taken two years to overcome.

Sir Mark said denser populations and travel meant the virus spread easily.

He also said the world population was now much larger than in 1918.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Sir Mark said that, in order to control the pandemic, "global vaccination" would be required, but coronavirus would not be a disease like smallpox "which could be eradicated by vaccination".

If they have an app that can sense Covid, why all the tests?
It's a proximity alert. If you are near someone who has tested positive and that person has the app installed and active, you'll get alerted. That's it.

Yes.
And it only works if you have a Covid tracking app that is compatible with it.
In fact, you can not turn it on without said app.
