Country Music Anyone?

I've lived in Dallas most of my life, and still can't stand country music. It's typically just too winey/twangy for me. Every once and a while, there will be a country song that I like, but for the most part, I don't listen to it at all. I actually tried to listen to it for a few weeks when I was younger, but never could get into it. I've always preferred heavy metal. That's just me though.

Keith hasn't badmouthed Texas on foreign soil. George Straight knew what he was do'in with the new song Texas.
As far as I know, the Dixie Chicks didn't badmouth Texas on foreign soil, either. They badmouthed GW Bush, who certainly had it coming. I liked them before they said it, and I like them even more since they said it.

Toby Keith, on the other hand, seems determined to base his career on jingoism and militarism, neither of which I have any use for.

So I guess it's just a question of which values you embrace; we both agree that an artist's values can be so offensive that it becomes impossible to enjoy their work. :)

What do you get when you hit a Yankee in the face with a golf shoe?

Eternal bliss...

Until about 20,000 New Yorkers (mostly Brooklynites) beat your face in with rusty tools.

Texas is it's own little country anyway. Might be better for the rest of us if they made it official. =)

Maybe it could be the official headquarters of Christian Exodus. CE is aiming too low; why settle for a small state when you could have a midsize country?

You get your house back, you get your car back, you get your wife back.....

Can I just get the house back and leave the rest as it is?

Nah, New York and California should merge together.
Just keep the country music out of california. The SFers will riot.

I haven't been exposed to much Country music. It just isn't that popular over here I guess. The songs I have heard have done absolutely nothing for me but... I don't dislike it :).

I don't think that I've ever heard the Dixie Chicks on the stations that I listen to, and if I did, I'd call and complain.

Down with the Dixie Chicks!!:faint:

So, they have political opinions that you disagree with, so therefore their music isn't any good? I suppose if there were a country music song about "killin' me some a-rabs" everyone in Texas would rally behind it in a second. But, the moment a country group decides they don't want to tow the Christian Conservative line, they're worthless?

I'm so glad I don't live anywhere near Texas. Living any closer, it might be contagious.

Exposed ? You make it sound like mustard gas...............:biglaugh:

Actually, It's becoming more and more popular, because line dancing is really taking off. Not for your age group Fluffy (you'll escape the deadly clutches of C&W)

Because badmouthing Texas and Toby Keith combined makes it a capital offense.

The 'Chicks don't even exist as far as I'm concerned. If I hear their twangy voices all I can hear is anti-Texas banter. They're ashamed of Texas, so we shouldn't have anything to do with them.

Strike Two. Natalie Maines, 28, previously escaped scrutiny last year, when she called country singer Toby Keith's pro-America song 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,' "ignorant," and said the tough-talking song "makes country music sound ignorant." No boycott was ever called.

[Update: Country singer Toby Keith won three Country Music Television awards for his controversial post-11 September track Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue on April 7, 2003].

Apparently Maines didn't learn much after the September 11 attacks. The American people have become much more patriotic, and while there are many opinions about the war in Iraq, there are also many casualties for those that speak out on subjects that are considered by many as un-American.
