So, they have political opinions that you disagree with, so therefore their music isn't any good? I suppose if there were a country music song about "killin' me some a-rabs" everyone in Texas would rally behind it in a second. But, the moment a country group decides they don't want to tow the Christian Conservative line, they're worthless?

I'm so glad I don't live anywhere near Texas. Living any closer, it might be contagious.

Now that's just evil.

EDIT: Apparently people care about more than just music - if the Chicks are producing quality stuff, I can't say. Some people actually care about their home and what people say about it. When we give our money to someone, we are endorsing them.

BTW, Christians hate the 'Chicks for other reasons.

American Girls and American Guys
We’ll always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There’s a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ***
It`s the American way

Because badmouthing Texas and Toby Keith combined makes it a capital offense.
You've got a lot of people to kill, then. But I guess overreacting may be the most effective way of defending the honor of a state and a person who have done so little to bring honor upon themselves. :D

Yep, it wouldn't be so bad if you could just look at him without listening to him.

Mindless jingoism at its worst. But he's from Oklahoma, no need for Texas to be ashamed of him. ;)

I can't relate to this statement at all. I have no clue what you are trying to say. It just sounds mean-spirited, ignorant, and rude. I don't know of any state in the Union (with the possible exception of Oklahoma) that does not have distinguished citizens.

My reference to OK was completely incidental. :biglaugh:

Don't you just love the smiles on the faces of the people with the "you're going to hell" signs?!

That just seems odd to me.

The unfortunate thing is, I suppose, that those idiots have to buy the Chick's CDs before they can burn 'em.

What the hell are they thinking? The Chicks are still making money.

Almost like noticing the people in a Godzilla film that are laughing as they are running away from Godzilla.

Obstructor of justice
As far as I'm concerned the song does make country music sound ignorant. However, it didn't really need the help. Patriotism is one thing, but patriotism isn't singing a song about bombing the ever living crap out of another country. And then we wonder why these people hate us. It really isn't that far off from saying how great it is to be in the army killing arabs. Or as you southerners would call them, "a-rabs".

You know what I find the most offensive about country music? Those hats. Give me a break with those 10-gallon hats. Are they compensating for something, or trying to hide thier bald spot? Isn't why Rene Zelweger divorced her country star ex-husband? Because he took off the hat and then she realized he was bald? LOL

Actually I just realized something. There is one country song I happen to enjoy.

I really liked the remake the Dixie Chicks did of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide". It wasn't as good as the original, but good for a remake.

That's about the only good thing I have to say about country music. =)

I love country music, Johnny Cash, Nelson, Toby Keith, etc. Bluegrass is very good as well.

Those are exactly the three fellers that I often quote on RF! Frubals to you and a beer!

I love Nelson and Keith's Beer for My Horses.

I agree...that's a great song. (Tori Amos does a nice remake of Landslide too.)

And other than that and maybe a few select country music songs...I'm so not a country music fan. :sorry1:

Since my wife and I moved to the wonderful town of Ft. Worth, TX, we have started listening to quite a bit of country music. I've grown to love it, especially because many of the lyrics employ a variety of rhetorical color that I appreciate.

I have an aunt that lives in Grapevine. My Grandparents used to live in Burleson and now my Grandma lives in Stephensville. All right there in your neck of the woods. I'm from Oklahoma myself, but got all my tattoos in Dallas. Grew up on country music. Neslon is a legend and I can't believe any one would have a bad thing to say about him.

I also love country dancing, and not just the line dancing, I love a good two-step partner, and a shuffler is even better. ;)

Cause I'm a redneck woman
And I ain't no high class broad
I'm just a product of my raisin'
And I say "hey y'all" and "Yee Haw"

And I keep my Christmas lights on, on my front porch all year long
And I know all the words to every Charlie Daniels song
So here's to all my sisters out there keepin' it country
Let me get a big "Hell Yeah" from the redneck girls like me
He11 Yeah !!

I'm not a redneck, so obviously I don't like country music. As a matter of fact, it's one of the few kinds of music I absolutely can't stand. I'd rather listen to Hip Hop and for a 57-year old Mormon woman, that's saying a lot!

I used to feel that way, because it was every where. I rebelled and went rock. But since I've moved away from the mid-west, I have learned to have an appreciation for it. But whether I liked it or not, I was always 100% redneck.

Texas is it's own little country anyway. Might be better for the rest of us if they made it official. =)
You must spread some Karma around before giving it to MaddLlama again. :D
