An Antifa gunman who admitted shooting dead a supporter of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer in Portland, Oregon has been killed by US Marshals in a shoot-out as officers tried to arrest him.

Michael Reinoehl, 48, was killed as a federal task force attempted to apprehend him in Lacey, Washington, a senior Justice Department official said. Reinoehl was the prime suspect in the killing of Aaron 'Jay' Danielson, 39, who was shot in the chest Saturday night, the official said.

Federal agents from the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service had located Reinoehl on Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. During the encounter, Reinoehl was shot by at least one law enforcement officer who was working on the federal task force, the official said.

Instead, he tries to divide us,” Mattis writes. “We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership.”

I think that is very accurate.
We are seeing those chickens coming home to roost.

I have grave fears for the US, despite being an Aussie. Trump is pushing the divisions which exist to breaking point for political reasons. He could easily cause the worst civil disorder since the Civil War.

Can we even believe the reports, though? News and propaganda have become so intertwined that no one knows what to believe, anymore, so they believe whatever suits their preconceived bias. And clearly we can't believe the cops after all the lies they've told and continue to tell to protect their own. So what really did happen? Unless it was caught on camera, no one knows.

I'd like to see bodycam footage of the event.

How do we know the gunman was "Antifa"?
Was there an extended conversation over politics during the shooting, or did the police conduct a séance to establish his political affiliations post mortem?

Trump condemns himself, regularly. Domestic race-based terrorism has been around long before Trump, and will continue long after. He is not the only reason these people are feeling empowered right now. Everyone is playing the media, which is happy to be played so long as it keeps their ratings up. And the result is that we have no credible source of information, now. And this is disastrous when it comes to making reasonable, effective decisions.

It's certainly fair to treat the Daily Mail with suspicion as they're notoriously dishonest. However, this story has also been covered in the New York Times which Media Bias/Fact Check lists as a left-centre source with high factual reporting:

That is a rhetorical question, of course, as this has been happening on these forums since beginning of the controversy around George Floyd's murder, if not earlier.

Remember when people on this forum argued that the little white supremacist who shot two protesters was "acting in self defense"? Why do we not argue that an Antifa member "acted in self defense" when he shot at a cop, when he had already been shot at before?

Is cops shooting at people part of the natural order, and not to be questioned?

A huge swath of the U.S. population think the New York Times is a 'liberal mouthpiece for socialist propaganda'. And they think that because they see and hear it being called that by a hundred other propaganda media mouthpieces looking to stir up their bias and use it to their own advantage.

Once the media becomes a tool for liars to spread their lies, the truth get lost in all the hype and bias. It may still be there, somewhere, but that doesn't mean it can be seen for what it is.
