Define "Kindness" (or how in the H did I deserve the RF Kindness Award?)

So now, is that "kind"? Or is it simply "committed"? And are they two separate categories?

Separate but with an interesting relationship.

Your examples in this post are of commitment. It is born out of the desire to make things better and developed to their full potential.

Kindness is both a prerequisite to healthy commitment and a strong opponent to it. Kindness is all about avoiding hurt feelings, and it is unfortunately at times quite limiting once one has to deal with this imperfect world. Unleashed, criteria-less kindness can be very destructive.

Kindness is "do no harm." We "do no harm" where we identify with a thing --where we are in the presence of a like "kind". Where people move (in thought, word or deed) to harmonize a situation, that's where kindness is found.

Yeah but there aren't any awards for voodoo dolls. :(

This is very interesting, tbh. There are two distinct schools of thought here with the perception of "kindness."

I've been quietly pushing for a Voodoo award behind the scenes for a while now.

Awesome. I sincerely hope we have a Unrepentant Whore Award sometime, too. That one on my mantle would be hardly debatable.

Okay, so if I've been seen as exhibiting "kindness", how so exactly? And just to prove that I'm not fishing for compliments here, if I haven't been seen as exhibiting "kindness", how so exactly?

Don't worry about offending me, y'all. My character has been called into question and shredded before in print media, so let's let our hair down and chit chat over a good drink. :drunk:

I feel that this award may in fact have been directed more towards your commitment than towards your kindness, come to think of it.

Commitment is more visible, sometimes far more visible, than kindness. Specifically regarding your participation in RF, your commitment also involves many moments of stepping back for a moment and easing up feelings with a joke of some kind (I suspect that is how all those dirty jokes began). Other times you are the one to remember some sort of good will gesture.

Overall, you are kind, but I believe that your commitment is actually more noteworthy than your kindness, to a great extent because you are so skilled at balancing both for best results.

I know I wasn't asking for compliments, but dude this just made my entire day. :hugehug:

I nominate Luis for the Kindness Award (even though this isn't really the place to do it).

BTW, I'm still wanting to use my character as a sort of catalyst or springboard for discussion on the general attitude toward the word "kindness". I realize that not everything has to be about me and me alone. :p

How do you define kindness? Is it placating, soft, ethereal? Or is it a kick in the pants, blunt, honest? Do you define kindness by the message or the intent? Or both?

And do you see kindness when I pull out my whip? When I put it down? Or just because I give a damn?

Kindness seems to be a byproduct of reasonably expressing yourself accurately.

You are kindness personified (or a lovely leatherbound version of it :flirt:). The award is well deserved, and the nomination would have been popular I imagine.

Missed this thread. Congrats. Sometimes even through steel doors you know there is a bed of roses on the other side. As a matter of fact it is even easier to see sometimes when on top of the steel doors, more is placed like mind fields, booby traps, laser rays, and big signs that say there is NOT a bed of roses on the other side of this steel door.

:D

Hunh.

I'm confused. Is kindness the bed of roses? Or booby traps? :D
