Of course, it disgusts me. I even see it happen with my parents as they are quick to judge themselves. Unfortunately there's not much you can do as they grew up in this environment and it's how they were raised.

Well I want to thank you for being so kind and open to us poor whindus.

Where do you see Sanatana Dharma a decade from now? How can we move out of the race/ caste/ language based discriminations?
Probably where it is now. A decade is too small for a big change. I think Hinduism can exist outside India in spite of differences of race, caste, and language, that is how we do it in India. We do not look for uniformity but accept differences.
Don't know what Long Beach christian history has to do with it, but seems to be a small nice temple.

It's tough stepping in like that. I'm glad you do. (Sometimes when I heard racist comments from cousins or acquaintances, I admit to not stepping up for the idea that 'they'll never get it anyway.') I'm glad you do.

I have to, it's not fair. I always step in when I hear racist comments, especially from my aunts who love to gossip and talk rubbish (Typical Indian aunties).

I have experienced two occasions where I was essentially told I could not be Hindu. One person outright said, "You cannot become Hindu, you have to be born Hindu" Another person just said, "We have no conversion process for becoming Hindu."

It bothers me but I find it easier to let go.

I agree with what others have said - It's actually mostly other white people that have a problem with me being Hindu. A lot of it has to do with some weird white man's guilt and some of it has to do with fear.

I would say things are changing for the better but it will be slow. I am still usually the only white person at my temple (Well only person of another race other than Indian too) And I still get stares from people. But the last two times I told people at the temple straight out that I was Hindu I was greeted with smiles and curious questions.

And FS, how many races we have among Hindus? Hinduism is already multi-racial even in India. The North-West admixtures, our UP bretheren, Ahomias (Assam), Sindhis, Maharashtrians, South Indians, and the tribals.

I heard Africa is starting to see Hinduism grow in increasing numbers too.

We have different skin than Indian people, we live in a different place, different culture, different weather, different food, different hair, eye color, different language, different history, different cultures.

But WE ARE HINDUS

Every day I see on the internet insults about "you white ******", "caucasian idiot", "you have no right to be Hindu". At temple in my own country I was refused prasad because of my skin color.

I have only very very rarely encountered 'it'.

And frankly, there are some westerners (none on here that I have seen) who need to wake up and smell the chai. When all they know about Hinduism is that Ganesha shirts can be found at drug-infested raves, and that Siva is that stoner God, then Delhi we have a problem.

"Cool man, I'm a Hindu."

This reminds me of one day when my husband was buying gas from a gas station. It's a couple of years ago now, so I don't really remember why this happened exactly. But the guy who was Indian, thought that my husband stole gas.
No matter, my husband DID pay for the gas and did NOT steal it. But the guy came running out screaming that he had.
My husband calmly said that he did pay for it. Really, he said I did. Then he pulled out our Ganesha statue that he carried with him (This was before we got a permanent car Ganesha) held it out to the guy and said: "Look, really I'm religious, I really wouldn't steal."

The guy was completely floored.

I bet there are at least 100 000 whindus, maybe more, who are visibly obvious about it. Another 2 million or so would make some claim to being so, and another 20 million would say it's been an influence in their lives.
