Do unto others....
Finish the sentence.
Do unto others....
Do unto others....
....and you know what that is better than they do, yes?Do unto others only that which promotes the general welfare.
Do unto others as you would have done to you.
That right there is the essence of morality; no god needed.
....and you know what that is better than they do, yes?
Unless of course God gave us that advice in the first place.
No, no god required....
Unless of course God gave us that advice in the first place. It's rather amazing how many religions (...I think...pretty much all of 'em) have that as a basic tenet.

Do unto others only that which promotes the general welfare.
Blame Kant, as that is what he essentially said.
Don't you think humans could have figured it out on their own?
Religion is programmed to apologetic its way into mainstream logic ever since people became literate and began questioning what they read in the book, but the theistic tactic fails so miserably that it becomes apparent how it never had a leg to stand on from the beginning.
As well as almost all secular moral philosophies. It's a pretty obvious concept for anyone who possesses even a modicum of empathy. If you wouldn't want someone else to do a certain thing to you then you shouldn't do that certain thing to anyone else. Most folks don't need a god or anyone else to tell them that.
Perhaps not....but how well is that particular 'rule' actually followed?
Certainly not perfectly... but it seems to be followed currently more so than ever before in history. A couple of hundred years ago slavery was considered an acceptable practice in much of the world. Today the practice is almost universally condemned. Women used to be treated as little more than chattel through most of history, thankfully today women are increasingly being granted equal rights in much of the world. Just a few decades ago societies routinely condemned anyone who wasn't a heterosexual... today societies are increasingly recognizing that a person shouldn't be persecuted for their sexual orientation.
All this is based upon human beings ability to recognize that since they wouldn't want to be enslaved, or treated like second class citizens, or persecuted for who they happen to love, that they probably shouldn't treat other people that way. And people are moving more in this direction because in the past couple of centuries we've increasingly been defining morals via secular laws and abandoning defining morals based on religious laws.
....and you know what that is better than they do, yes?
All that is nice.
However, where we have 'done good' in some places, we aren't 'doing good' in others.
For instance, freedom of speech is REALLY being clobbered. I, for instance, have been punished rather severely for having conservative views by people who are...what is that word...'woke?'
Religious discrimination and oppression are still very much accepted. Only the targets have changed.
What I see, frankly, is that the 'majority,' or at least the folks with power, are doing their level best to silence those who don't have it. No change there...except, again, that those who were discriminated against in history now find that they have the power to discriminate.
And so they do.
I was not drawing comparisons to anybody and I do not know who the they is you are referring to.
