Do you 'know' or believe?
Life that does not 'originate' from earth huh... maybe if there have been any attempts to replicate abiogenesis or similar processes in experiments conducted in space? any organism produced from such could be technically considered alien right?

Personally I am unsure if Alien life exists, let alone intelligent alien life; however given what we now know of astrophysics I am inclined to think it probable that the conditions for life exist on other planets and that on some of these the necessary chemistry>biology processes have likely occurred.

Im surprised by the number of people who believe in aliens!

Well...speaking for myself, saying I believe in them is going too far. I just think it's possible. And an 'alien' could be a single cell organism.

I'm not. We already have evidence of intelligent life existing in the universe.

I can't think of many situations where we can observe/point to the existence of only one of anything. I am simply applying that to the sheer size of the universe, and it seeming unlikely that only one planet has intelligent life.

To me, the thought does not lessen our value. If using the metaphor of us being Children of God, it just means I think our family is a lot bigger than we may have thought. :)

Well, if you don't consider yourself a form of intelligence in existence in the universe, maybe you can find at least one person that you can say that about. :)

edit: I meant that in a playful way. I think it may have come across wrong. I didn't intend it to be snippy. I meant that I think humans are at least one form of intelligence that we have evidence of existing in the universe.

They could be more intelligent and simply not know we exist :p.

Or maybe the live among us like those "Reptilian shapeshifter" conspiracy theorists believe. Every time your cable pixelates it's because a Reptilian shifted on live TV and the government doesn't want you to know about it LOL

Thats what they want you to believe. That way their real disguise will remain a secret... they are mice.

EDIT:

In all seriousness I find it hard to believe any aliens would know of us. After all, given the size of the universe and the amount of time we have used things like radio, a very insignificant part of the universe would be able to notice us (assuming they arent using some more advanced stuff then radio waves to search for life).

I agree.

There is probably intelligent life elsewhere on the universe. However, humans might be one of the first intelligent species. Because planets and life are so young in our Universe, says Harvard's Dimitar Sasselov, perhaps "the human species are not late comers to the party. We may be among the early ones."

"Humans May be One of the Early Intelligent Species in the Universe" (Weekend Feature)

If there are other species out there, the problem is contacting them, or them contacting us. For example, an advanced civilization might have existed 100,000 years ago on the other side of the galaxy, but we can't make contact with them because the message they sent out arrived at Earth 100,000 years ago. 100,000 years might seem long to humans, but over cosmic time scales, it's relatively short - only 0.0007% of the universe's total age, so a difference of this time scale might not be that unlikely.

perhaps we are just the beginning of intelligent life in the universe...maybe God plans to eventually have more intelligent creatures inhabit other planets too

human history is only 6,000 years old afterall.

I can't say yes or no, but I'm open to the idea there might be others out there. There isn't any option for me. I can't take your poll.
you have no choice with Godobeyer :p , it's could be "probely choice "

at least Vote for second option, aren't you sure that the creatures exist "only" in the earth :D ?

Regardless of how hold human history is, I'm not sure that there is any reason to believe that we are the "first" of the intelligent species. Maybe some organisms have evolved before us, and maybe some will evolve after we are long gone. At this point, who knows?
