Do you consider yourself a minority/majority?

Do you identify under a demographic...

  • ... majority

I'm a heterosexual Protestant male from an upper middle class background getting a college education. I was born and raised in the Midwest, of medium build, and define myself as a moderate politically, and I enjoy watching sports and TV in my spare time... But the first thing people notice about me is my race, so I'd say minority.

I will now confess that I made this thread to see if my assumption that the majority of people are somehow minorities is potentially correct. I find this extremely amusing for some reason. That many people can claim membership in one or more demographic minority makes you wonder why minority rights are so often disrespected in various cultures. I mean, if almost all of us are part of a minority, you'd think we could figure this out and be a more pluralistic society. *chuckles*

I actually knew this already. I have long since taken note of the lack of traditionalism and normality in theological ideas being expressed here. I myself am a Deist with Dharmic and Islamic flavorings. Then you have Syncretic Christians and Hindus followed by Pagans.
Even the Christians are unorthodox here which allows me to fit in with being a hertic :D

Hmmm....I need to list my qualifications:

Minority:
female (yeah, number majority, but politically minority WTH)
bisexual
non-theist
polyamorous

Majority:
white
middle class
college-educated
middle aged
married

Unless I think of any other qualifiers that put me in a politically minority or majority group, it looks that I'm JUST on this side of a majority.

On further note I should add that I am a fan of Socialism and Anarchy and I support non-racially based slavery under the conditions of equitable attainment. The fact I am partially African may surprise many but then again it could just be the other half of me.

Let alone non-racial slavery?

Slavery based by race is something entirely new. Did you think Greeks say a Asian man and said "Oh he is Asian, that makes him a slave". People of all races enslaved every other race they conquered.
I believe it is best of you to remove the thought of American based African slavery.

I have a habit of not taking the popular opinion but I do not mean to be abrasive by doing so :D

Still, how can one be supportive of slavery in general? Especially in this day and age?

How can you not? It is our desire to conquer. I am not saying we should bring back slavery but I fully understand the gratification from it. It is human nature.

"Veni, vidi, vici". Mankind loves to conquer and we do this on all sorts of small scales. There should be no reason to condemn it based on morals which are products of charlatans.
Are you familiar with the concepts of Societal/Governmental Collapse? The total collapse of order. The events to follow such a thing are in true spirit of an anarchist I may add

But in a way, due to the fact we have enough cognitive processes to make such decisions based on morals (no matter if they are fake or "made by charlatans"), that we can try to move beyond our innate nature and try to better ourselves and the world?

I'm a Jewish proselyte who believes in Jesus/Yahshua, and rejects the teachings of the self-proclaimed "apostle" Paul, as well as the doctrine of the Trinity.

I doubt there's any country in which that's a majority. :p

You used the word "innate". So you admit that it is our "innate" desire to perform acts of debauchery?

Not even you can deny what mankind is ;). I am not saying we should live in chaos but we should live in a society of organized "sin". Even Muhammad regulated slavery by the way. Almost every immoral deed we have has been regulated in times past.

Why try moving pass something which cannot be lost? Crime rates go up along with violence. It is not our nature to conform to anything really. We can only unify to such a degree until we begin to form rifts between each other. Mankind is a social creature, not a horde of ants. There is a difference. Name me a pack of mammals that form a communal union that reaches the millions?

We also have enough cognitive process to glorify violence as portrayed in cinema works and video games. We also glorify vile deeds such as degrading sex and other hedonistic immoralities

I have some doubts that non-theists are minorities modernly.

When it comes to how I feel, I'd say definitely a minority. I could say I'm Christian and that would count as a majority, but I'm an LDS Christian, so I'm definitely a minority in that regard. Among Mormons, even, I kind of don't fit. I really kind of feel like I'm always on the sidelines looking in. Politically speaking, I am a left-leaning independent. Here in Utah, I'm seriously nervous telling most people I interact with that I actually voted for Obama (twice). I'm pro-gay rights, again not really part of the majority in that regard, at least in my circles. I don't like not fitting in, but that's how I am and how I'm determined to live. (See my signature for clarification.)
