Tell me how it works out. Do you really think our tastes are THAT influenced on milk?

Heh...thanks. :) Well for me, I do believe having had milk for 38 years firmly set in my mind what "milk" should taste and feel like. So when I try a glass of rice milk, it doesn't even come close. Then again, if I stuck to a non-dairy version for a year, I'd probably break the habit.

Why, then, do most people still give it to kids, if it's not good for them? My wife and I met a vegan who was doing just that. :confused:confused:

The vegan is giving his/her child cow's milk?

I don't know how the UK advertises milk, but here in the US, its consumption is very much encouraged as an excellent source of protein and calcium. In the last few years, there's been an ad campaign linking milk to weight loss as well.

Is it really that healthy for us? I can't say. As with most things, there are arguments on both sides. I can tell you there is money in milk, which makes one question all the ad campaigns.

I love milk because without it, there would be no cheese and I love my cheese.

I do not enjoy the taste of milk on its own and drink it on rare occasion.

Smoke

Done here.
I don't like milk, but I like milkshakes, cheese, ice cream and yogurt.

The taste of plain milk makes me gag, though.

I used to put it on my cereal and then leave most of it in the bowl when I'm done. Now, if I eat cereal at all I usually just eat it dry.

We eat cheese almost every day, though. I like feta the best and John likes cheddar.

I think that I could live without milk...cheese though, that would be hard to give up.

I love milk, apart from in my coffee and cereal, I also find myself drinking it out of the carton from time to time. I also love goats milk, which is considered healthy actually.

I swear you and my husband Steve knew each other in a previous life. LOL

The hormones, antibiotics, and the fact that most milk is homogenized is what makes it unhealthy for most humans who haven't evolved quickly enough to handle these changes in dairy processing.

We drink it, but we only buy organic milk and cheese. When we can, we get non-homogenized milk (you have to shake the carton).

I still can't find organic heavy cream anywhere, though. Our plans to move to a more rural setting does include raising dairy goats, and we plan on getting our milk in the future that way.

And as Dan mentioned earlier, goats milk is in it's nature more digestable to humans than cows milk. Most people around the world drink goats milk, too. Our daughter prefers it and will drink it all day if given the chance. :D

Depends Upon My Mood..
To drink straight I prefer soy.

But Im with Smoke on the cheese..I can eat cheese everyday..and other cows milk items.Sour cream..cottage cheese ..yogurt..

But I was freaking out a while back because I did some research too and one article was talkign about how there is blood and puss in milk...

I'll have to find the thread because I posted it here..And several members I believe told me to take it with a grain of salt..

Adn someone mentioned children?..Yes they specifically tell you at the pediatricians to give your child whole milk once you stop formula..then when they are 2 they tell you to switch to skim.

Being a student, breakfast cereal and pasta make up most of my diet so I have lots of milk and dairy products (I love cheese or carbonara sauce :D).

I've never been one to care greatly about health issues with my food. Eventually everybody dies, so make the most of it. The only thing I really keep check on is my calories and fat intake, I want to keep my figure afterall.

I drank a lot of milk when I was younger. My parents never paid attention to crazy warnings about food. Heck, we even ignored critical food contamination notices issued by the FDA. I used to take a handful of laced Tylenol tablets, wash it down with a gallon of milk, then go outside and chase the city insecticide truck down the street pretending it was foggy and I was in London, England.

And my mom and dad raised five all American boys. Of course, two of my brothers walk with limps now and another one can't pronounce the letter "r" without making a face that looks like a pug dog. But, all that aside, I sometimes think we take these food and drug warnings too seriously.

Seriously, as I get older, I find I have less cravings for dairy than I did when growing up. Like many others on this thread, most of my dairy consumption now days is through cheese . . . which is typically served copiously with generous portions of wine. See, I'm still livin' healthy.

I'd like to try goats milk. I like almond milk and soy milks. We drink them everyday, but we also have a 2% milk available in the fridge as well.

If anyone has any other details let me know. I did try some Almond Milk.

Almond Breeze

Pretty awesome. The real question is will it mix with Kahlua and vodka to make a white russian? (Or really... toasted Almond? Sort of?)

I also have dial-up so I couldn't watch the video, but I don't drink milk, I don't like it and I never have.

The argument against milk is that 75% of the population is lactose intolerant. Historically humans did not drink milk, it was readily adopted only 10k years ago.
Farming and gathering societies are also fairly new. And myself, I only know a handful of lactose intolerant people.
But myself, I LOVE milk. And given that we have a process known as Pasteurization, I'm not too worried about bacteria or puss being in it. I am picky about my milk though. I generally only drink skim, but I do get 2% for cooking purposes (skim doesn't make food taste as good), and I stick to smaller "real" dairy farms rather than mega farms. I also love cheese, and I eat yogurt daily. Which is indeed very good for you. Well, if you make sure it has the appropriate bacteria cultures that is.

YouTube - Why Cows' Milk is Unhealthy

What say you?
LOL "they feed the cows all kinds of junk, animal parts, faecies, dried blood and roughage??"

Sounds to me like this guy's never even been on a farm.

antibiotics because the cows get sick off their feed and the antibiotics get into the milk?

.. idiot..
it's illegal to have milk with antibiotics in it.
Here in NZ, if your milk is put into the tanker and it has antibiotics in it, you get a $20,000 fine. If not more.
EDIT: at any rate, it's cheaper to dump the milk into the effluent pond than it is to get the fine.

milk machines pull skin and blood from the cow?

only if you're an idiot and don't take care of your cows properly. Letting that happen DECREASES the cow's production, and they produce less milk, and therefore, you get less money from it.
EDIT: Also, makes the cows more susceptible to mastitis. Mastitis = need penicillin, which has a withholding period of several days, meaning the milk can't be put in with the rest of the herd's milk. One cow with mastitis can easily infect other cows, and other cows with mastitis means more cows giving unsellable milk. Damaged teats cause a huge loss in profits.

makes US immune to antibiotics?
durr... antibiotics isn't for US, it's to kill the bugs... making us immune to antibiotics is a good thing, making the bugs immune, not so. Sure that might happen if you get the antibiotics and make the bugs immune, but just shows that this guy hasn't actually done anything to look into it properly.

So... I'm just gonna disregard that first video, being that it's full of nonsense.
