I support it if that's what people want.

The Rainbow Room is kind of dead, so I suspect that with the numbers on RF, a public LGBT DIR will also be kind of dead after a while.

Probably not as dead as the Amish DIR, though. So there's that.

Well, just as some people said, Capitalism could be discussed in Conservative DIR:confused: I would say LGBT stuff could be discussed in Liberal DIR.;)
Except, I've talked to transwomen who are conservative. I've known Capitalist who are Liberal, and Libertarians who aren't Conservative.

I'd think a GLBT DIR would be good, but except for the occasional troll it's really not needed. The DIRs were originally there for members only to have a safe heaven where they could discuss their own views amongst themselves without outside interruption. Given that the Rainbow room has more spider webs than anything, I'm not sure if a LGBT DIR would take off or be necessary since we do have the Rainbow room. Maybe if the Rainbow room were taken off the members-only access and had DIR rules apply to it?

And come to think of it why is DIR becoming a catch all? Discuss Individual Religions I would think wouldn't include economic, social, lifestyle, or other non-religious things. But the forum has grown, shrunk, changed and evolved over the years.

Oh yeah, and what kinda poll has no no option?:p

I created this poll because there's no place to discuss specifically LGBT topics on the public board and especially since there's no place to put trans topics and that's p***ing me off. I create trans topics and don't know where to put them so they end up all over the place and I think that's a big part of the reason why they're ignore more often than not (or people just don't care about it on this board and prefer to bicker endlessly about homosexuality). The Rainbow Room is pretty much a waste of time.

I didn't put a "no" choice because the other DIR polls didn't have one, so I followed suit. If you don't support it, then don't vote at all.

Is this actually about the lgb part, or is it mainly just the trans part?

The reason I ask is because I doubt that there will ever be much participation about trans because so few people have much of interest to contribute. Having a DIR won't change that.

It's about all, but the trans part is my biggest personal reason for the reasons I've already mentioned.

Is there even that many homosexuals on these forums. Or is it gonna be the same small handful of people talking in it lol

I can't give a number, but there are definitely a number of homosexual members. Transmembers though, there never has been more than a few at any given time.:(

Sure, I see no problem with it. I suppose I have wondered what's up with the creation of all the subforums, suddenly. On the one hand, I understand the idea of having a place to discuss specific ideas but, on the other hand, it seems like we are dividing ourselves more this way. Still, just because there's a separate area for a certain topic doesn't mean that anyone is going to stay to only that area, so there really shouldn't be a problem. Im just rambling :D

I wonder if the private section is inactive specifically because it's private?

I have also noticed that everyone's been using "DIR" for "subforum" :D

You see, DIR can mean Discuss Individual Religions as it so often does...

But, for non-religious topics, it can also mean Der Individual Region (of the forum). Der is German, you see. There's a perfectly good reason for this.

After awhile you get a feeling for who's who. And there is also reading what people post in a DIR, which can be very telling if they should be in there or not.

Yes, true. Everytime I hop into a Hindu DIR Im able to tell by everyones pic.

So maybe what you want is a trans subforum. I don't see any problem with posting about gay issues.

Quite the contrary. There are lots of those.

Part of the problem I have is a distaste for exclusive forums. I can understand that a religionist might want that. If I were a Muslim I wouldn't want some Christian interrupting a discussion of Islam with threats of hellfire and such.

Other subjects I don't see the point so much.

I'd rather have an LGBT topic area if any - perhaps broaden the Sexuality one - and leave the Rainbow Room as the DIR area.

So I vote no, I don't see the need for a DIR if we have the RR and if it's going to be a Discussion area than it wouldn't be a DIR.

Doesn't have to be a DIR. We can figure out what color it is after. I just want an LGBT subforum, period.

We have the Rainbow Room but that's private and not very active. There is also really nowhere for transgender/transsexual topics to go and that leaves me feeling very left out and confused as to where to put those topics and so they end up all over the place. So a general subforum for LGBT topics seems like the best fix for this.

What say you?

Sure.

Why not?
