Obviously, as with any other religion, the messages individuals choose to extract from it are not uniform.

Did you read the article in the opening post? If so, in your opinion, do some Muslim writings advocate spreading Islam by force?

Some do, some don't. It's up to the Muslim. Muslim writings in general are a mix.

Can I ask why you ask this?

Because I am interested in whether or not Muhammad advocated spreading Islam by force.

Sure he did.

But is that the message in total?

And or, is it perverted by many modern members? Sure.

So what now? It is already a black eye, do you feel the need to keep swinging?

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
It's pretty much the same for Judaism and Christianity, as well.. (and everyone else). Everyone "against" God (/my perception of a tolerable living) must/will be destroyed, or removed from sight. Bullying is common from childhood.

If you're asking me if I have a black-and-white opinion of Islam, Muslims, and the Koran, the answer is no. The sacred texts of the world's religions are typically complex and nuanced. They can be seen as advocating just about anything under the sun depending on which passages the individual chooses to emphasize or how they choose to interpret things. Islam can be seen as promoting just about anything under the sun, and I won't buy any attempt to get me to agree with black-and-white statements regarding interpretations of its sacred text.

It started of peaceful. But having failed to convince others about his religion Mohammed then changed his strategy to aggression and violence.
The more aggressive he was the more followers he got, the more booty he gained and as well as power.

No. The reality is they never have.

Muhammad's own life, are evidences that it never supported peace.

Muhammad and his followers may have fought in self defence in the beginning, but it was never self defence when besieged the Banu Qurayzu in their stronghold, or beheading them that didn't convert. It was never about peace when he had Ka'b ibn al-Asharf assassinated for poems that supposedly either mock him as a prophet or mock Muslim women (or both).

They spread like plague of locusts, after his death, invading kingdoms that were not their own. No it was never about peace, but power. Peace only came at their bidding and conditions.

I don't think any religion is peaceful. They may make noise about "peace", but they are hardly peaceful.

Power corrupts.

Islam from the every onset, got itself into war, killing, assassination. Muhammad got his first taste of political power, when he became mediator in Medina, and it corrupted him. Christianity was peaceful, until a couple of centuries later, once they got real powers in their hands.

I think the only religion that come even close to practicing what they preach about "peace", is Jainism.
