Does Religion Alter or Destroy the Human Spirit?

Just because I AM in a Human body does not mean that I AM Human; I AM Life, The Life, Operating this physical structure. I AM the I AM, And even if I hadn't experienced things that suggest Life beyond a physical structure I'd might be content with this knowledge and thinking that there isn't any experience after so called "death".
One's perceptions and opinions destroy what this thread is refering to as the human spirit-which is really just a drive fueled by desire and other emotions.
Union of consciousness occurs when you acknowledge the I AM in others. At that point you realize that "I AM" is the foundation of all Consciousness. It is even your direct connection to what is refered to as the sub-conscious.

Do you use the word 'consciousness' as meaning the same as being 'enlightened'?

All enlightenment is, is being more consciously aware-but no. I'm talking about mental awareness/cognition in general. Enlightenment is like a clean and uncluttered 12 story building; all you have to do is clean up your mental messes.

Being enlightened (from mans perspective )means you are aware of what you are thinking and aware of what you are doing. Standing back so to speak and evaluating your thoughts rather than just thinking and acting. I dont see how that is different to mental awareness. Without mental awareness how then can you stand back and evaluate your thoughts?

Clearing the mind up means its swept clean for something else to fill up the 12 story building. And fill it up with other stuff. Some would argue that awareness/consciousness means that you dont have anything in that building at all and you keep it clean.

Enlightenment implies being free from obstructive and destructive opinions, perceptions, and thoughts. The Lotus points in all directions. A clean canvas holds all possibilities. One can see beyond the viel once it has been parted. Universal/Selfless Love is your Septer of Dominion and preventer of the less than desirable. When you breath the Sacred Fire Breath naturaly you are in a state of enlightenment.

Can you give me an example of what is an obstructive an destructive opinion, perception and thought?

People who get annoyed with things like the sound of a dripping faucet have a perception that is destructive and obstructive. They perceive themselves being able to get bothered by the sound and therefore they do get bothered. And any inharmonious feeling is destructive to the mind and the immune system.
Another destructive and obstructive thing would be the way many people fail to veiw life as one. Lack of the Holistic mindset leads people to less understanding of one another and that causes many unnecessary disputes which leads to many destructive thoughts, feelings, opinions, and perceptions of one another. Knowing that you are the I AM and that the other person also is the I AM leads to the ability of understanding how and why that person acts, thinks, reacts in certain ways. Without thoroughly knowing that you have the capacity to understand someone, you may not permit yourself to do so.

Isnt what you say about the I AM a perception too? How do you know that its not a destructive perception or thought?

How could they not be?
Every thing that is created comes into reality as it is severed or broken away from something or everything else. The fragmentation of the Universe begins with I AM. It is an act of both creation and destruction, much like hacking chips off a block of marble might create an aesthetically pleasing sculpture (and a not-so-aesthetically-pleasing pile of stone chips).

I think many people confuse that which is inherantly present in everything, energy, as a model for spirituality. I think i even defined god at one point as being energy. I dont anymore. Energy just like everything else was created, and even if we cannot create or destroy it, it had to come from somewhere.

i often associate small-mindedness and 'in group mentality' with catastrophic results to religion. i hope there is still a place for it in the world, that unites people in community and gives them a way to ponder the deeper mysteries...

the brilliant thing of the here-and-now unfolding is there is no need for any establishment to save anyone, we have seen that is illusion that we dont need to be tied to anymore. Awareness is what we are, and the tools to sharpen it are available to all who are searching for freedom.
