I'm always amazed at what dogs are capable of. They can find drugs, and even diseases, including cancer, in people. They can learn language more than what was recently thought. Dogs are amazing creatures. And their loyalty is awe-inspiring. Their intelligence has always been underestimated. There's a reason why dogs are considered man's best friend. I can't really disagree with that sentiment.

I agree - dogs can be very smart. Reminds me of one time my dad, sister, and I were playing The Game of Life and my pup stole one of the money bills in the pile. He was a trained robber :D

I mean, he just walked over and picked one of the paper moneys up with his mouth and walked off

Dogs for the companionship. Cats for the maintenance or casual company.

I think of dogs as like your goofy best friend who will do anything stupid you try. Cats are your observant best friend who shake their head in shame but follow behind for amusement.

Cats are smarter.
They do nothing useful at all, yet they get everything they want.

Gotta love cats, one moment they are regal and daring and jumping at heights that should be impossible for them and and the next...playful cute furrball.

Dogs are best. My friend has a cat but when the cat find him at some other place (except home) it didn't recognize him.

I think they are equally adorable but I prefer cats.
The reason is that most of the time, I will want to pet a dog but when I go near it I can't stand the smell and if I do pet them, I can smell them on my clothing until I wash up. Cats always seem clean and soft and I never have problems with smelly hands of clothes.

I prefer cats any day of the week. No offense to the dog we currently have (I do love him and all, but he's kinda like the Spawn of Satan from time to time).

Cats are much quieter, will keep to themselves, and when they love you and curl up on your lap you KNOW it's because they really like you. Not because you feed them or take them for a walk or something so simple. But they see you as an equal and act accordingly.

They got personality, IOW.

So who voted other ?

I've read the whole thread and not one post extolling the virtues of rats or guinea pigs or rabbits, but there is one vote for 'other'.

Wombats make great pets. And geckos are a good choice if you have a cockroach problem.

Cats rule though.
And they may be manipulative, but so is your mum and your kids, and your spouse (especially your spouse). So if dogs are better because they are so loyal and obedient, why aren't you living with a pack of dogs ?

I have both cats and dogs, so feel suitably qualified to give my opinion. Dogs are better by far! Loyal, Obedient, and you can take them with you when you go away over night.

I voted other, since I don't really like cats or dogs. I wouldn't willfully have either one. I routinely get in fights with cats and a lot of dogs annoy me. If I had to choose I would go with a dog. I'd rather have a penguin.

There's less drama with a cat's wild side than with a dog's wild side. :)
