Dutch Prime Minister gives a different approach to Corona

What do you think is the best solution for a country:

  • 1) Building group immunity, without full lock down (option 1 in article)

  • 2) Let virus run unchecked (option 2 in article)

  • 3) The full lock down approach (option 3 in article)

  • 4) Start with 1) and if it goes wrong start with 3)

  • 5) Depends upon the country

  • 6) I can't say right now, time will tell

  • 7) Other solution (explain in reply if you like)

Under 60s probably around 30% vote Tory
Over 60s it's not far off 65%

If it's just a few thousand people who would die soon anyway, it isn't going to save a great deal of cash. It would be a tiny fraction of a percent of social security spending, let alone government spending. The cost to the economy of the virus spreading further would be far greater than any savings.

So what other reason is their for such callousness?

Spanish flu?
MERS - Middle East Respiratory Syndrome?
Ebola?
German measles?
Also ironically Spanish Flu was also controversial as heck and more had to do with war propaganda, as the virus did not originate in Spain, and crossed over from France.

Lots of viruses like Measles give you 99% immunity after you have them, only time will tell if this happens with coronavirus, if it doesn't its going to be much worse than I'm expecting, which is already horrible.

I wouldn't put anything past Trump, he may have started the virus in China to take over, cancel elections and become God emperor, nothing would surprise me from him.
You really think Trump would be so stupid, to start this virus in China? He would be to scared to do it himself, so he must have had others do it for him. And being president, I guess people who are really in charge of USA must control his every move. No, I can't imagine that to be true. I mean, starting such a virus, obviously backfires on yourself one day. But then again, jealousy and power wanting, make people do stupid things.

I pray, he did not do it, otherwise this is not the end. China would never forget nor forgive such a thing I think. They will get to the bottom of it.

Sorry I should have worded that better. I'm typing on my phone so thoughts get jumbled while trying to get it down here.
In agriculture there are two kinds of herd immunity strategies. One is vaccination, the other is allowing the pathogen to burn through herds and take the damage. The herd immunity in response to the coronavirus is an example of the latter type. In practice it's more dangerous for the weak and it will lead to hospital spikes as even healthy people can need treatment for covid.
Oh, I understand. Typing on smartphone is really horror sometimes. So many times, without me being aware, I touched "funny" frubal, when on the phone. And it is good, that you point out how dangerous this is for the weak, because when a Prime Minister says such a thing, some people are too gullible, and just trust their PM blind, which would be their death, if they don't stay in strict "self isolation" during this period.

I think it is more than just a few thousand. Many people in USA suffer obesitas. And this might be related with diabetes, which is trouble when getting the corona virus. I am not sure, so checked it:
More than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or prediabetes, according to a new report released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The report finds that as of 2015, 30.3 million Americans – 9.4 percent of the U.S. population –have diabetes.Jul 18, 2017 CDC Press Releases
USA: 327.2 million (2018)

Wow, I was not aware that so many people suffer diabetes in USA.

56' is enough to scald you and leave second degree burns, just saying.
Thanks for the warning, but I am not the one jumping in very hot water, before dipping my big toe in it first:D

Death Valley is in the northern Mojave Desert and holds the highest recorded temperature of 56.7C
Is that not a nice coincidence. To kill Corona virus, just go for holiday to Mojave desert. Better make it a very short holiday though. In WHO they wrote that in 15min 56 degrees Celsius this SARS virus gets killed already quite a bit. So that sounds good, at least I have something I can try, as long as doctors can't help me.

A sauna session can be a social affair in which the participants disrobe and sit or recline in temperatures typically between 70 and 100 °C (158 and 212 °F). This induces relaxation and promotes sweating.
Should be do-able 56 degrees, I have been in hot saunas. Of course don't jump in boiling water, even 56 degrees is too much for me to swim in (and I like hot water). But dry heat is easier to handle.

you're right, its very unlikely, but trump is a bit of a maniac so only he would think of such a thing,

I heard a news type say that calling it the "Chinese virus" is racist.
"Chinese" is not a race.
And "Chinese" is the adjective for the country where it started.
Anti-Trumpers will say anything to defend the commies, & attack Trump, eh.

Are you suggesting Trump simply called it the Chinese virus because that's where it started, rather than as a deliberate messaging tactic?

I already gave his explanation earlier in the thread.
His message seemed clear, ie, it's from China...not from
the US Army (unleashed in China, as China claimed).

Fair enough. I don't believe his explanation that he's 'trying to be clear', since calling it COVID-19 would be more accurate.
I think China and some elements of the US government are engaging in some tit-for-tat.

Which makes them both clowns to my mind.

Still, subjective opinion, and all that.
