Election was stolen -- but not by Russian hacking.

The media are abuzz with discussions of convincing -- but secret -- CIA/FBI evidence of Russian election hacking, but is this just a diversion from the real elephant in the room: voter suppression?

There were the usual long lines and lack of voting forms in minority districts; the usual caging and changed polling places, and the gerrymandered districts carefully drawn by sophisticated computer algorithms, but this was the first general election in 50 years without the protections of the Voting Rights Act, and the GOP has gone into overdrive instituting new, restrictive voting regulations. The result: millions of legitimate voters disenfranchised, and millions of (mostly Democratic) votes purged.

Republicans were wildly successful at suppressing voters in 2016
Their systematic disenfranchisement was intentional and politically motivated. In the years leading up to 2016, Republican governors and state legislatures implemented new laws restricting when, where, and how people could vote — laws that disproportionately harmed students, the poor, and people of color. In several instances, lawmakers pushing such policies said explicitly that their goal was suppression of voters who favor the Democratic Party.

Comments? reactions? conclusions?

But the most effective voter suppression too was Interstate crosscheck, applied specifically to suppress minority voters.
The GOP's Stealth War Against Voters
The data is processed through a system called the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program, which is being promoted by a powerful Republican operative, and its lists of potential duplicate voters are kept confidential. But Rolling Stone obtained a portion of the list and the names of 1 million targeted voters. According to our analysis, the Crosscheck list disproportionately threatens solid Democratic constituencies: young, black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters – with some of the biggest possible purges underway in Ohio and North Carolina, two crucial swing states with tight Senate races.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.
These states shouldn't be GOP controlled in the first place. If Liberals, the clear majority in this country, start voting at state and local elections EVERY year, then these governorships will change hands and voter suppression goes away.

If this is happening (and I'm not sure it is based on your links), it shouldn't even matter. The numbers should be overwhelming, clearly mandated victories, but they are close, which is a shameful indictment of our lack of a good liberal candidate this year.

Republicans win when voter turnout is low. Liberals are to blame for not taking the proper interest.

I voted for the centrist who ran under the Democratic ticket, and against the bizzare platformless deceiver who ran as the Republican.

Trump could be the wake-up call that changes everything for the majority voice in this country, but we need a candidate who is actually a liberal to galvanize the base.

I'm hoping Trump's presidency will be a Klein shock that makes the distinction between corporate and popular government clear.

My question is what wasn't done to the Democrats, what are Republicans not willing to try, they literally thorugh everything and the kitchen sink at Clinton and got the popular vote. Hilary was even called the Devil at one point just like the first woman who ever ran for president. You know something is up when even Republican electors are saying WTF, hasn't been like that in like 200 years.

We had an election.
Someone won; someone lost.
Get over it.
We survived B.J.Bill, & Jimmy Carter didn't we?
Then there was Nixon, and Ford and ..........................................

America didn't want Hillary or Trump, but got stuck with picking between the two anyways. America picked Hillary, by not too bad of a margin, but that didn't happen and Trump will be elected anyways.
It's not whining to point this out. It's pathetic to just accept it as "oh well, it happened." Why should we just accept it? Things never get done or improve when people just accept the **** the bourgeoisie and political class dumps on the "lesser" classes. "Get over it" are the words favored by oppressors, not those interested in running an open society. "Get over it" is an excuse, not a reason.

So you are suggesting doing what if anything?

Call for more recounts? Lead a revolt of some kind?
Quit paying taxes.
Cry in your beer for the next four years?
Did you forget we still have a House and Senate to level things out?
Our nation survived a peanut farmer didn't we?
We survived " I am not a crook." Nixon.
We survived B.J.Bill despite his affairs.
Affairs with women that should have been pictured on bags
of Kibbles'n Bits.

Now you see how some of us felt about the Obama years.
Just one difference, we didn't go completely off our rocker about the election itself. Sure we didn't like it, but we lost and got to the serious business of complaining about his agenda.
So, how about giving everyone a break and wait until he has been in office for at least a week then you can start your tirades. Fair?

We only survived by some stroke of luck. Like it or not, America is showing dangerous warning signs of collapse, and no other state has survived for so long being so divided, so militarily over-spent, and so politically "frozen." (as in, locked down to the point nothing is getting done because of political bickering)
And, I noticed not one thing you suggested is that we demand a recall election, of every elected position on Capital Hill. We must purge Republicans who are dead-weights in the system over being babies because they fail to realize their religion does not give them authority to decide who may and may not have rights. We need to get rid of Democrats who say they are fighting against the Corporate Agenda only to have their own pocket books lined by those same corporations they claim to fight. We must be indiscriminate in removing those who open the doors for lobbyist corruption, and are likely to only add to the mess themselves in what we pretend will their "post" political career. We also need to completely reform and overhaul the election process, because as it is we can expect only those who America does not want being on the ballots.
We need to start realizing this is our country, and not just go on as drones who believe we just have to accept it, that is the way things are done, and oh well.

New Now you see how some of us felt about the Obama years.
Obama, both times, had support beyond the DNC, didn't have the controversy of securing the ballot, and he won both the popular and EC vote by comfortable margins. And Obama didn't bring in a crew targeting the rights of women, immigrants, and minorities.
The situation is not similar. False equivalencies must be avoided.

I think you might have misunderstood what was written or I wasn't clear enough. Let's try again

We vote in the next election. I didn't like the results, but those are the results. You're right, "get over it" is a lazy response designed to deligitimize political opposition for next time.

Voter turnout was why we lost. Many, many people did not vote who could have and should have.

I'm optimistic that 2018 might be an election year under the rallying cry "Nueter Trump" with a democrat supermajority.

We can do this!!
