It was very unlikely for a major turnover to happen when one has a good economy and tax cuts going. In usual scenario that would result in the victory for the ruling party, but Dems have Mr Trump to thank for their good show.
Congratulations to all the candidates, and congratulations to the Democrats with a sound strategy in taking the House.
Most of all, congratulations are due to everyone who voted, everyone who went out and had their voice heard and exercised their power to determine government.

I don't get this "Indiana's a state to watch" thing. It was obvious it would go red, and Donnely did run against a very strong Republican candidate (something either 538 or politico claimed) who shot himself, not in the foot with a gun but with a cannon to the head. The Republicans didn't need 9 seats for a majority, they only needed 8 because Indiana was secure for them.

I'm happy with the results and relieved to some extent by which conservatives still hold the Senate which reasonably ensures long-term stability and the moving forward of policies.
At least we're not going to completely grind to a halt aside from some chinks in the armor.

It's being reported that, privately, Trump is furious. Especially with Paul Ryan for "losing the House". That's to say, Trump blames Ryan for the loss, and refuses to take any of the blame for it himself.
Sure thing or not, when the Dems lost the Senate seat in Indiana, their chances of taking the Senate were pretty much over, you see. That's why the seat was being watched, even though it was a sure loss, as you called it.

I get that, but I don't. The chances for the Dems taking the Senate were practically non-existent to begin with given they had many seats up this year whereas the Reps had only a few. Add in that Indiana is a very safe Republican state, and to me it seems a waste to watch when the results are known before the day even began.
I get what you're saying, Wolf, but please consider that the Democrats did --- according to the polling -- have a chance, albeit a very small one, of picking up the Senate. In 2016, Trump had a chance, albeit a small one, of winning the presidency. Many people dismissed Trump because his chances were so slim.
Yes, that is what all the polls seemed to indicate. But people have become very skeptical of polls. Understandably, with surges coming from every direction at once people can be forgiven for thinking the impossible might happen.

In governors races, Democrats picked up seven seats from Republicans last night in Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and Wisconsin. The Connecticut governor race is still too close to call, but it looks as if Democrats will maintain control as Democrat Ned Lamont leads the race by roughly 1 percentage point and Republican Bob Stefanowski conceded this morning. Alaska and Georgia’s gubernatorial races also remain too close to call. But it looks as if the majority of Americans will now have a Democratic governor, despite a stinging loss for Democrats in Florida and what looks to be a loss in Georgia as well. The popularity of Medicaid expansion was on full display last night. Voters in three states chose to expand the program to those with incomes 133 percent below the federal poverty line. Idaho’s measure passed by a wide margin, with 61 percent in favor, while 53 percent voted in favor in Nebraska. In Utah, the measure is projected to pass, and currently has 54.1 percent of the vote with 75 percent of precincts reporting.
But as I mentioned last night, there are other states where governors race results might renew a push for Medicaid legislation as well. The Kansas legislature voted to expand Medicaid in 2017, but the bill was vetoed by former Republican Gov. Sam Brownback. However, Democrat Laura Kelly’s win in the governor race last night could mean another attempt in the state. And in Maine, where voters chose to expand Medicaid on a 2017 ballot measure but Republican Gov. Paul LePage refused to implement it, newly elected governor Democrat Janet Mills could see that expansion through.

- Voters in Washington state passed an initiative that could make it easier to prosecute police for negligent shootings.
