Everyone Is Awesome: Lego to launch first LGBTQ+ set

In the “spraying room” at Lego HQ, tiny figurines are layered with bright, glossy paint before being placed on a rainbow-esque arch. The result, a waterfall of colour with 11 brand new minifigures striding purposefully towards an imagined brighter future, is the Danish toymaker’s inaugural LGBTQIA+ set, titled Everyone Is Awesome.

The colours of the stripes were chosen to reflect the original rainbow flag, along with pale blue, white and pink representing the trans community, and black and brown to acknowledge the diversity of skin tones and backgrounds within the LGBTQIA+ community.

I recommend reading the article, it's not very long. But you get to hear from the designer of the set:

“Growing up as an LGBTQ+ kid – being told what I should play with, how I should walk, how I should talk, what I should wear – the message I always got was that somehow I was ‘wrong’,” he said. “Trying to be someone I wasn’t was exhausting. I wish, as a kid, I had looked at the world and thought: ‘This is going to be OK, there’s a place for me’. I wish I’d seen an inclusive statement that said ‘everyone is awesome’.”

I love this set and I will be buying myself one. I have been a Lego fan since I was a kid and I will have no issue adding this set to my collection!

I think this is ridiculous and inane. It's also a kid's toy and should not be having anything to do with sex.
Exactly. This is dumb. Play with Legos if you want but this is more about adults than kids. They need to stop pushing this stuff on preschool and elementary school kids. Parents need to stop pushing it on their kids, too.

As for myself, I don't even own a rainbow flag anymore. I had those sorts of flags up for years.

All of these takes are so bad, who knew RF had so many people that could be triggered by Legos.

We're both members of the LGBT community, by the way. Are you? If not, why do you think it's okay to demean us for our opinion on it? Even if you are, our opinions are just as valid as anyone else's. We're not a hive mind.

It's not the Legos. It's making children's toys into a political statement when the children don't even understand it. This is just adults feeding their own egos. Let kids be kids.

I think this is just for free advertising. Trigger everyone who will give this free publicity. But corporate crap aside, I think the set is cute. Will be getting one for my baby nieces.

Also thanks to the OP for getting that retched song back into my head :mad:
It took weeks to leave last time

You have to get to kids when they are young to control them when they are older.
Just ask anyone who isn't religious or is against religion. They always claim religion brain washes kids.

And to be clear, I'm not religious and Im not against religion. I'm a let people live their life kind of person.

I say....

LEGO also makes Advanced/Expert sets for the 18+ crowd. I build many of them, this is most likely within that lineup. Y'all are overreacting.

Please, the pity parade, while adorable, is stupid here. If a tiger booing you on an anonymous web forum is framed as demeaning to you, you need to deal with that. Just because you are a part of that community does not mean you are immune to criticism for holding dumb opinions.

I’m sure kids will be like “oh pretty colours” and that’s about it.
Also I have to ask, why is it whenever LGBT things are advertised or whatever it’s immediately equated to sex? Like for example I watched the old Will and Grace show as a kid and everyone around me was freaking about it portraying sex. But the show was rated G or PG I’m pretty sure
Like I’m sure there were references to the sex lives of all the characters gay and straight that flew over my head at the time. But I don’t remember seeing anything to do with sex on the show. Like I could understand if it was lingerie or something like that. But a children’s toy? What’s the connection I don’t get it

Try replying like an adult and cut the nasty attitude. You haven't even engaged with what we wrote.
