I think he has already made a difference, and the fact there there's so many on the right that are so angry is evidence of that. However, I do agree that it's very difficult to change the course of the entire ship, but he's trying, and that I give him credit for.
What has he actually done?

The only major thing I can think of was a bit of a cleanup of the Vatican Bank. Beyond that, this papacy has been par for the course, IMO.

There's numerous sources one can check on this, but let me just link you to one: The 18 Most Surprising Things The Pope Has Done! I Can't Believe #5!

You can also check out some other links here: Google
Much of that (e.g. his supposed tolerance of LGBTs and atheists) is just media hype. Other parts are continuations of what other popes did: John Paul condemned the Iraq War much like Francis condemned the conflict in Syria, and at least one source has called him "Benedict 2.0" for his environmental positions:

Environmental manifesto may confirm Pope Francis as ‘Benedict 2.0’ | Crux

The rest seem to be small, symbolic gestures.

My wife stopped going to mass a couple of years ago, but when she saw what this pope was saying and doing, she came back to the church and attends regularly. She ain't the only one who has done that, and she certainly doesn't feel that these are "symbolic gestures"-- and neither do I.

So... when the Pope sold his Harley and gave the proceeds to charity, it was the value of the Harley and not the message it sent that you considered important?
