Factors preventing people from conversion to Islam

Jasem, that comment you made about 9/11 totally ruined any chance of me converting to Islam. I lost some good friends during this war and to make such statements and be a representative of Islam is the exact reason I would never convert. I don't care what is written in the Quran. Whoever follows Islam and is practicing Islamic ethics would number 1 wouldn't comment on 9/11 and two, remain non-judgmental

It's scary how many regular Muslims really seem to believe that. Indoctrination is a powerful tool.

AmbiguousGuy and Vendetta, that post by jasem was a turn off for me as well. The vast majority of Muslims do not agree with that like of thinking, FYI.

I agree and disagree.

I agree when thinking about all the Muslims that I know and have talked to on the matter.
I disagree when thinking of the Muslims I have personally read and interacted with online only.

In fact, it is most amazing how the numbers between the two groups differ.
I go with the numbers from the ones I know and interact with in person over the ones I read and interact with online.

Now to be completely fair, I do not frequent Islam or Muslim message boards, so I understand that there is a possibility that I am not reading and interacting with a fair representation of Muslims online.

Well, I have been on a few of those Muslim forums, and what I've discovered is that the ones who are more into conspiracy theories are also the loudest. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if some of the same people post on many boards to have themselves heard.

I know a lot of Muslims, and while there are a few who question SOME of the events of 9/11, I don't know of any who seriously believe the US government was behind the entire thing. BUT, most Muslims I know are also from the US, so perhaps outside of the US there are different beliefs.

Bottom line for me is that I am responsible for MY opinion, not theirs. :)

Hi, ssainhu. I realize about the vast majority, but I think quite a few more Muslims believe it than makes me comfortable. I watched some news show once (60 Minutes?) where the reporter went to a Muslim school in Pakistan and asked how many students believed that the US terrorized itself on 911. About half the class raised their hands.

That kind of indoctrinated ignorance is pretty scary.

But I appreciate you chiming in on the issue.

I understand, believe me, I do. Brainwashing is very very powerful, and I have no doubt it happens way more often than we want to admit. :(

My condolences for your loss and I hope God may bless them and us all. In Islam, the life of one innocent people has been stated to be equal to the life of all people, regardless of their religion. Islam has valued the life of human kind and never let Muslims to do such a thing. Of course there are some radicals and fundamentalists who have misunderstood the Islamic rules, the stereotype that is shown on the western media. I didn't say the word but these people said:

YouTube - ‪9/11 CONSPIRACY: A CONTROLLED DEMOLITION DESTROYED THE WTC!!‬‏

YouTube - ‪911 inside job proof‬‏

If it is wrong, ask them why? It seems that the 9/11 accident made a brilliant excuse for the USA and its followers to invade Muslim countries!! How the USA that claims to be the first technological and powerful government, can be attacked by Muslims? I said you can find so many documents that prove the idea of 9/11 conspiracy. It made you disappointed about Islam?!

Lets just say yes
This got me to wondering...
If replying to said blatant set up is against forum rules, is the setup question also against forum rules?
If not, why not?
If so, I will report said post as a violation of forum rules.

Is the Muslim religion dominated by 9-11 Truthers? Because if so, that kind of widespread failure of critical thinking would be another factor preventing me from converting to Islam.

Definitely not. But Islam is dominated by the propaganda that is supporting terrorism.

Hello Jasem. I am wondering if you could attempt to clarify what you are meaning here? The way it reads almost made me fall off my chair. I wasn't laughing, btw.
So, just to make things completely clear, what do you mean by, "Islam is dominated by the propaganda that is supporting terrorism".
