Failed NT Prophecies about the Second Coming of Jesus

Really?

You don't wish to learn?

The Gospels were not even named until the 2nd century. There is no reason to think that they were written by the people whose names are attached to them. The Exodus has been known to be a mythical story for quite some time now. Fear is keeping you form learning.

I think we are done. It is no use to continue. No intelligent life form.

Actually, studies have shown that Mormons know more about the Bible than any other Christian group. When you say that we are "misinformed," you're really only saying that we believe differently than you do.

I believe information is more than knowledge but includes comprehension as well which is why beliefs vary.

For instance my church will say that they can't comprehend why someone would perceive the statement by Jesus that John the Baptist is Elijah means there is reincarnation because they know better than Jesus that there is no such thing as re-incarnation. So they simply find a way to dismiss what He said by changing it into something else.

Sorry, that is a failed prophecy. For several reasons. First it is excessively vague. It has been thought to have been fulfilled in the past. Second it is not unusual. There have been "wars and rumors of wars" ever since the time of Jesus. Third it is inaccurate. The number or earthquakes today is no different from in the past.

I believe that lack of specificity in one case does not alter the specificity in other cases in Mat 24. So the overall usefulness of the prophecy does not hang on just one portion.

You would be wrong. The events predicted in that prophesy are common place throughout man's history. As a result without being specific it has been "fulfilled" multiple times. It is as worthless as me predicting that you will see a red car.

Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.” (on Jarius daughter)
Her case isn't like Lazarus'. Jesus uses the sleep euphemism for Lazarus but confirms death. With the girl, he flat out says she is sleeping and denies she is dead. In other words, unlike Lazarus, the girl is just comatose.

World War I claimed an estimated 16 million lives. The influenza epidemic that swept the world in 1918 killed an estimated 50 million people. One fifth of the world's population was attacked by this deadly virus. Within months, it had killed more people than any other illness in recorded history.
So what? More people on the planet = more deaths. Less people = less deaths. This isn't rocket science.

The Lord Jesus was taken up to heaven and John was exiled at Patmos, where he wrote the prophecies given to him by God through the Lord Jesus Christ. John lived for 100 years while the rest of the apostles are "asleep".
John is psychotic and bitter.

If he were living it up in a nice Roman villa somewhere, I bet his "prophecies" would be MUCH different.

When was the fulfillment of this prophecy? 1095-1291 A.D.
How do we know this is fulfilled prophecy instead of people just trying to fulfill it?

I mean, Jesus specifically notes a prophecy of him riding a donkey into Jerusalem and goes and buys a donkey just for this purpose, and it's not even much of a prophecy because he's not exactly going to come in riding in a Lexus or anything. Lots of people rode donkeys.

When was the fulfillment of this prophecy? 1347-1351 A.D.
And now we have antibiotics for that. God keeps saddling us with problems and we just keep finding ways around them.

And dragging poor Sesame Street into this is just mean. :p

That he has to come back at all after he supposedly conquered sin and death shows he is quite ineffective. It's okay, though. Jesus said people who call others fools will burn in hell and he forgot apparently that he called people foolish. He's not coming back because his own verdict landed him in hell. :)

The Inquisition was a group of institutions within the government system of the Catholic Church whose aim was to combat public heresy committed by baptized Christians.
It was a thinly veiled excuse to murder people they didn't like. Let's be real here.

How can an atheist [one who does not believe in the Lord God] could really believe in what the Bible says?
I believe in God and even I know the bible is filled with angry wish fulfillment and after-the-fact whining/boasting.

There will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and plagues everywhere; there will be strange and terrifying things coming from the sky.
Jesus could calm storms. He said with faith the size of a mustard seed, mountains could be made to move. And yet, Jesus never really did much for anyone else. Calming the storm was for HIS convenience, not anyone the storm threatened. He didn't like curing people unless he could make a big show out of it (see the woman who slipped a cure from him when he wasn't looking and how perturbed that made him). He actively tried to avoid people most of the time because they kept crowding him, even though his powers as identified means he could just mass-cure the entire lot and send them home. While I believe in the Way, it's clear Jesus is just an evangelist who suckers people into making him more important than he was.

That is a start, but how do you tell if a prophecy is failed? Let's add a few rules. First it must be a rare event. My "You will see a red car" example is something that is not rare. In fact it would re rather odd if you were outside along a roadway and did not see a red car at some time.
Exactly. That's why a prophecy such as "a man will ride a donkey into town" in an age where anyone who wasn't walking probably rode a donkey is a stupid prophecy.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

A comet.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

A solar eclipse.

There was one that had an apogee of Dec 25, and a solar eclipse occurred the same day. That has to be a very unusual combination.

Do you realize what those prophecies are in regard to? They are about an event that has not happened yet. They are not a fulfilled prophecy.

Subduction Zone,
Did you happen to notice that the things written in the 24th chapter of Matthew, the 13 chapter of Mark, and the 21st chapter of Luke are prophecies tha would come true, would be happening just before Jesus would return to earth. In fact this chapter is the answer that Jesus ga e to the disciples who asked him, Tell us, when will these things be and what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the world, or system , or Age, Matthew 24:3. Then Jesus made a long answer by telling prophecies that would come true for, both the system they were living in and ours also. They and we have seen wars and heard reports of wars. The fact is that more people were killed in wars, from 1914 to now, than were killed in all the centuries from Jesus day. Now there has been great plagues, such as Aides, and what about the Spanish Influenza that killed, Medical historians believe, killed maybe, hundreds of millions of people around the world in 1918.
Another thing, you mentioned is earthquakes. Check your facts, there have been, on average, ten times more, Major earthquakes since 1914, than in the centuries before.
Now, each of the things that Jesus mentioned, happened in each century, but here is the proof of Jesus prophecy, each has come true on an unprecedented scale, and all in the short space between 1914 and now, and will get worse before the end.
What I want to know is,how in the world can you ignore all the evidence, and say the prophecy about the coming of Jesus has failed???
In a short time The Great Tribulation will start, mentioned in Verse Matthew 24:29,30. Jesus will come to earth immediately after the Tribulation of those days, WHICH will be after the destruction of Babylon the Great, mentioned at Revelation 17:1-5. When Jesus comes death to God’s people will stop and the Judgement of the world will begin, Armageddon! After that God, with Jesus as the King of The Messianic Kingdom will bring this earth to the perfect state that God originally Purposed, Genesis 1:26-28, Isaiah 45:18, Revelation 21:2-5.
All things a progressing exactly as Jesus prophesied!!!

Also it appears that you forgot who Jesus addressed this prophecy to. All of this was supposed to happen within 60 years after Jesus's death. Now that deserves a

I doubt that claim. But at any rate you only underscored that it is a failed prophesy. Since 1945 war deaths are down amazingly. In the 21st century they appear to be at record lows:

And your claim about earthquakes is hogwash. You will not be able to support it.

Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

It begs the question; how much did Jesus know?

"We have admired his goodness in that for love of us he has not refused to descend to such a low position as to bear all that belongs to our nature, included in which is ignorance." Cyril of Alexandria

That's CS Lewis' response. He admits the prophecies are wrong, yet claims that is not a problem for Christianity. I still contend it's a problem. The Bible is supposed to be inerrant , yes?

The Bible is supposed to be inerrant , yes?

Only as a whole and as it pertains to what is necessary for salvation.
: "Since, therefore, all that the inspired authors, or sacred writers, affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture, firmly, faithfully, and without error, teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the sacred Scriptures."
Distinguishing what in the Bible is to be regarded as secondary detail conditioned by a particular age, what must be interpreted as the language of myth and what is to be regarded as the true historical and inspired meaning.

Life is short. Anyone knows that. And Jesus knew that some of those Apostles would die young and others leave Israel.

I believe those events have already occurred.
Then provide the prophecy the events and dates and links that support your claims. Please make sure that all factual links are proper ones and not false Christian links. The prophecy needs to be clear, otherwise you are merely reinterpreting it to meet what we already know to have happened. When one can reinterpret prophecy they become worthless since they can be "fulfilled" time after time. And make sure that your prophecy is an actual prophecy first and not just a verse taken out of context. That is called quote mining and is also a failure.

I believe CS Lewis must have been wrong about prophecies being wrong.
You can believe anything you want. I know that no Christian has been able to demonstrate a significant fulfilled prophecy and I can find multiple failed ones. The prophecy that bothers C.S. Lewis has been shown to have failed. It had a time limit to it and that time limit passed over 1900 years ago. That prophecy still has not come true. Putting a time limit on a prophecy adds validation as a prophecy but it also adds the risk of making the prophecy have a clear failure.
