To just say something I always say pertaining to remakes: Just because a remake puts 1 million$ more into CGI effects than the original, does not make it better. Bigger budgets and bigger effects does not equal better movie.

Indeed.

Unfortunately, putting another million in is guaranteed to get them at least two in return. It's a cheap way to make a movie that is still profitable :(.

And without having to actually use their own creative minds to think up a...God Forbid...new movie.

I'm going to take a more positive spin real quick. There are some things that need to be made and remade. Shakespeare and the Ancient Tragedies take the top for me. The 60s version of Antigone made in Greece is marvelous for that. It captures the pathos of the story wonderfully and brings it to the modern audience.

Of course there are exceptions to my despising remakes, I agree that there are some movies that are remade for the better, but really, with the mass amount of movies that are being remade, one has to wonder where the creativity in hollywood has gone to. Off the top of my head, movies that have been or are in the works to be remade as we speak that do not or did not need to be:

Ocean's 11
Thirteen Ghosts
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Dawn of the Dead
The Grudge
Assault on Precinct 13
Evil Dead
Dario Argento's Suspiria
Black Christmas
