I love cocker spaniels. Except they can be very nervous dogs and pee everywhere when excited.
I've had two Cockers. I absolutely adored them, but no matter how hard I tried, I never got them totally housebroken.

My then wife wanted an Afghan, but realized the amount of work that would go with it. So she settled for an Australian Silky Terrier. We had in all two, and she's now on her third. Lovely little things, intelligent, courageous, and, like I read in a book on dogs, "Will go well with modern furrniture".

But there's nothing like Irish (Red) Setters for me. The beauty! The spirit! (The mischief...) And the exercise I got from running (you don't walk them) one for a couple of years was probably a greatly contributing factor that made me recover from a stroke the way I did.

One of the few dogs that have attacked me was a collie. Ughhhh!
And I'm sure a lot of people have only been attacked by a pit. That doesn't make pit bulls a bad breed. On the contrary, they are great companions. I'm not trying to downplay your experience or whatever, but I promise there was more to the situation. The dog was probably either a result of poor breeding (happens a lot with popular breeds) or a victim of abuse.

For me, it's the Jack Russell Terrier. Awesome dog! Very smart and easy to train (when you can keep their attention).

Yeah, they can be EXTREMELY hyper, but are just the most loving little dogs. I don't know what I'd do without mine.

My favourite breeds are the black Labrador and the Border Collie. Two of the smartest dogs in the world, but black labs can take ages to mature. my Mum runs a boarding kennels and we have one or two customers who bring young black labs, only 2 years old or so and they are crazy. Our own dog is a labrador-red setter cross, which I think is quite interesting, so I have a Red Labrador, Jumble is his name. We called him that because of his weird look, and because he has black splotches all over his tongue. He's a great dog, had him nearly 14 years now and he's still very very active and strong despte recently having undergone major tumour surgery.

My grandma's dog is a black lab-collie cross, so it's very clever AND very crazy, but really very nice. I remember once we had a great Dane called Parker, and at Christmas we used to give him a massive bloodied bone from a Cow's thigh or something, it was huge anyway.

Dogs are undoubtedly better than Cats, and undoubtedly in fact the greatest of all pets, especially better than a Goldfish. What the hell is the point of a Goldfish? You may as well get a pet King Cobra, it would be just as useless and just as uncuddly. At least the snake might grow to remember you after some time, not like the useless fish. Here's a little imaginary conversation:

Owner: Hello!
Fish: Hi! Wow, I've got my own castle! Who are you?
Owner: Glad you like it, my name is Tom
Fish: Hi Tom, I'm Goldie!
Owner: I know, I named you after all.
Fish: Oh, right. Wow, I've got my own castle! Who are you?

and so on and so forth.

Fish actually get to know you. We used to have one that would come to the top of the tank so my other half could rub under it's chin. Oddly enough, it was a catfish.:biglaugh:

Well as some of you already know, I got a puppy for the kids for Christmas. Yeah I know you're not supposed to give pets for gifts but.....
We got an Australian Shepherd and we named him Jay-Jay(after my ex-husband).:biglaugh:
So I have to say that this is my favourite breed. :D

Heinz 57 (mongrels):D . I have had a few dogs in my time, and have always found Pedigree dogs to have a tendency to be neurotics, or to have a pre-disposition towards certain illnesses.

Mongrels are free from that (because they are far less in-bred).

I like Chows and German Shepherds equally well. But I think mutts tend to make the best pets.

Rotties. Especially when they get big enough to play rough and tackle you when your playing ball with them.

I'm rather fond of daschunds and mutts :p. (It's really bad when I had to say "daschund" rather than "weinie dog," bc I can't spell "weinie" and am too lazy to look it up right now)

I'm a working dog fan. But My favorites would have to go like this... (I'm partial to wolf hybrid's :D)

1. Samoyed (Big White and wolflike! Just like my white wolf spirit guides)
2. Alaskan Malamute (These dogs are the most powerful and most loving dogs.)
3. Alaskan Husky (Energetic, Loving, Loyal, and not to mention absolutely gorgeous!)
4. American White Shepherd (Brilliant and beautiful dogs! I'm partial the white too :D)
5. German Shepherd (Take out the inbred hip dysplasia and you have one dynamic dog!)

The sad part about purebreeds is that they are normally unhealthy. We have bred chronic illnesses into them, and thus mutts are usually more healthy.

It sounds like you might also like Akitas. Are you familiar with them?

I am, and I do like them. I didn't want to post more than 5, or else I could have kept going. :D

You know the funny thing about Australian Shepherds? They're not actually an Australian breed.:biglaugh:

Yeah, Rough Collies are awesome. Most people aren't even aware that there is such a thing as a Smooth Collie. And another thing, it drives me crazy when people refer to Shelties as "Miniature Collies." There's no such thing as a Miniature Collie. :D
