Films from the past that could not be released today.

Sgt. Pepper

I watched the film Airplane! with my son last night. During the scene in which Barbara Billingsley spoke "jive," I thought that this film most likely wouldn't be released in this day and age. Do you agree or disagree? What other older films do you think would be too politically incorrect to be released today?

Song of the South.

Sadly, even though it was insanely racist, or so it is said, I have never seen it. Nor can I. That and many of the Shirley Temple movies with black actors.

I tried watching Gone with the Wind a few months back, but didn't make it more than a few minutes in. From a 2022 perspective, it was unwatchable.

Not sure about movies, but the TV show King of Queens would never make it today.
How so? It was only made "yesterday". It can't be displaying outdated attitudes surely? I watch it and still find it legitimately funny not ironically so.

I do wonder how the black exploitation movies of the 70s and 80s would fair today. Movies like Blacula and Dolemite, I could see the MAGA Right and Lib Left finding fault with them for different reasons.

Does anyone else besides me remember Eddie Murray as Buckwheat on Saturday Night Live?

Speaking of Buckwheat, I'm sure that he and the Little Rascals would be shunned in today's society as well.

Callisto

Hellenismos, BTW
Any movie with blackface or yellowface though likely whiteface would still be ok. Any movie with cross dressing straight men.

The Birth of a Nation is sort of a no-brainer.

Bah, you beat me to it!

Yep. Instead, we have to endure the "high art" of Lizzo.
