Flight shaming hits air travel as 'Greta effect' takes off
Perhaps I can use this to avoid vacations which require flying.

On to a better issue to discuss....
What's reasonable to do for those of us who want to treat our environment better?

and let's fight to ban bridges, roads, airports, fisheries, timber, oil, gas, mining, fur,
meat, vaccines, GM, horse racing, pet ownership, national borders etc..

You give in to one thing and before you know the next issue is presented for you
to accept. The issue isn't really what is presented, the issue is you.

Stop eating meat, or things that required an animal to be involved (eggs, milk,.....). And yes; fish, lobster, shrimp, etc....are all meat.

What's reasonable to do for those of us who want to treat our environment better?

• Stop using air shipping and bubblewrap. That means no more Amazon.
• Move out of the country into a city where you can live without an automobile
• Give up plastic and metal. Live with cotton, wool, wood and wax. These are sufficient.
• Own a goat. Feed it city food. It will trim your lawn, your hedges, help recycle your waste.
• Instead of air conditioning use silk furniture, water-misters and weight driven ceiling fans.
• In winter huddle for warmth. Mammals have done for hundreds of thousands of years, including humans since whenever we appeared. Its ridiculous to claim otherwise. Its fact.
• Cease accessing the cloud. It is an energy hog using more power than airlines. This an undeniable fact.
• solar calculators are great, but don't encourage new production. Buy used.
• Bread is an energy intensive food. Opt for fresh fruits and nuts, instead.
• Use solar heating to warm soups. Don't burn coal just to heat your beans.
• Semaphore uses no coal, so encourage its use.
• There are numerous other ways that society today is in denial about.

My mother believed that all mining should be banned. She could muster a good argument
to the effect that mining is harmful (environment, injury, industrialization etc..)

My mother believed that all mining should be banned. She could muster a good argument
to the effect that mining is harmful (environment, injury, industrialization etc..)

One could advocate returning to a pre-industrial lifestyle.
I'm not going that far.

But I recommend against buying this car, & against driving this way.

That whole "drifting" thing looks really hard on tires.
It's so wasteful. I treat my tires gently in order to
safely get the most life possible out of them.

asking how many birds and bats get killed, how real
is infra-sound on people's health, how many terrawatts
of energy are being taken out of the world's winds,
how much infrastructure of the turbines is blotting
our scenery and so on.

Moi aussi (me also). I rely on them to keep the cars right side up so look after them - i used to do circuit trials, thats a different thing.

I thought "flight shaming" was about unruly passengers who ruin the flight for everyone else. And I've seen a lot of complaints about bad service and unfriendly personnel. I've seen it myself. These airlines suck in general, so if people stop flying on them, I like it too.

The only problem is, Greyhound sucks too, and so does Amtrak. I prefer driving my own vehicle.

I remember seeing a sci-fi pilot (created by Gene Roddenberry) about a post-apocalyptic Earth which still had operating "sub-shuttles," which were underground, high-speed trains which went all over the world - as fast as planes or even faster.

The best thing we can do for our environment is to encourage negative population growth for a few generations and get the global population down to more reasonable numbers - under a billion, if possible. The main problem isn't consumption itself, but the number of people doing it.

The relevance is that we must be ashamed of ourselves.
Not just airplanes or white supremacy or Imperialism or
anything in particular - just ourselves.

In Plato's Republic there would be no poets. Why?
Because poets (like screen writers, authors, activists)
are persuasive. Not truthful, honest etc but persuasive.
The poet would have you believe it's grand to live in a
cave.
... and ban airplanes, cars, roads, factories, vaccines.....

ps Plato wanted his ideal city to be governed by Philosopher
Kings. I wonder if our activists see themselves as having that
divine right to rule others?
