Fundamentalist Atheists

IHaveTheGift

U know who U R
No, many atheists make many claims of belief.
In my experiences with them.
Such as, there is no God, your faith is imaginary, religion is the cause of the worlds problems, religious people are all delusional.
Jesus never existed and was made up.
LuisDantas O said:
Many do. It still does not give us the burden of proof, though.
That is nonsense bro.
Asserting things as facts, require proofs.
This is exactly what I am talking about, in my experiences with many atheists, most of them seem to think they can assert anything they want as true, without providing evidence.
You simply can not have a real debate or discussion that way and I have had my fill of one sided, empty words, and everyone talking over on another.

Such as
"most parents force their kids to go to Church" that requires data to back it up.
"Churches keep all the donations for themselves" ...requires data
"religious people only donate because God makes them"...requires data
"all priests molest boys" ...........That one really requires data to back it up

There are billions of religious people on this planet, one can not claim to know what everyone does or does not do with their lives, if you feel otherwise, please do not even bring that nonsense onto me.
If that is what you are saying, and it seems so.
Thanks :)

Nice chat, and keep it real :D

Heading to bed, been a long night.

Gift, there is no point in just going back and forth between "atheists have the burden of proof" and "no, they do not".

Asserting things as facts, require proofs.

Not if we are talking about beliefs regarding the supernatural, including belief in deities.

That comes with the territory.

No, I did not. On a second reading, you seem to be appealing to a hope for an afterlife. But I do not share the need for a belief in an afterlife.

Odds....likelihood.
7billion people and no one survives the last breath?

So then Man (as well as life in general) has no design or purpose.
You are some complex accident doomed to rot.

THAT seems unreasonable to me.

It seems only undesirable to me.

If you say so.

I'm guessing there are -- or have been -- trillions of microbes for every human.

So the odds must especially favor the survival after death of some microbes?

Or do you consider humans special somehow?

Spirit.

Unless of course you picture heaven as a place with disease.
(but would that be heaven?)
(and that answer is a digression here....try posting as an op)

I think "fundamental" or "militant" atheism is important. It's been four hundred years since the scientific revolution. It's been a hundred years since the discovery of the Theory of Relativity, particle physics, and the fact that our Universe is vast and ancient and contains billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars. We have nuclear weapons, we've been to the Moon, we've developed computers and technology that would make the supposed Tower of Babel seem like a child's Lego creation in comparison.

Then there is a complete mismatch where large portions of this planet's inhabitants still believe in folklore and myth from the dawn of civilization. There are Young-Earth-Creationists using GPS receivers and fossil fuels and power from nuclear power plants, without ever giving thought to what that says about their idea of the true nature of the Universe in which they live.

Religion is no longer a cute philosophical set of beliefs and attempted explanations where science has no answers - *edit*. And it's a way for the few unelected ones to have political, ethical and economical power over others. And it is a powerful way of making large masses of people behave in a way they otherwise would not.

*edit*
The 'New Atheist' doctrine well outlined. Thank you.

Heaven? So you think some will not only survive this life but wind up in a magical place created by Abrahamic theologians?

Maybe so. Maybe not. Who knows.

But I doubt you'll ever convince Luis to worry about what happens to his spirit.

Good bet. It will be challenge enough to convince me that spirits exist in the first place.

I guess I just disagree. Going back at least thirty years, as I recall it atheism has always been lack of belief. We sometimes differentiate between strong and weak atheism, though.
That's the problem. That use of those terms IS 30 years old.

There are people older than 30 years who have memories.

So the terms used to have other meanings?

Are you sure it is not rather a matter of social acceptance? It used to be even worse back in the day.

However, aren't you going out on a tangent even if you are correct in your statement? "Gay" changed its meaning even more recently and in a more meaningful way, yet people don't make a fuss about that.

The last line is likely true.
But that doesn't take away anything I've posted.

As for heaven.....
I suspect it is simply you and me and anyone else with similar mindset.
How else to be happy?

And if your mindset places you with others who don't believe in Something Greater....then what you have is chaos.
No One in charge.

Rather than deal with this possibility....denial is the only option.
No afterlife.....no worry.

Doesn't mean it won't happen.

In what way? Unless you mean that it's off-topic--yes, it is.

"Gay" changed its meaning even more recently and in a more meaningful way, yet people don't make a fuss about that.
Unless you are referring to something else, "gay," meaning homosexual, has been around since the late 1100's. Between 1880 and 1920, homosexuality was more accepted than it is today, at least in North America, and the crack down on it in the mid 1900's was a response to its growing popularity. I can't speak for other parts of the world.

We tend to give decades names here in North America, and the 1890's were known as the "Gay Nineties."
