Believed in WHO? Several commandments explicitly, seriously forbade Thomas from kneeling before and worshipping a mere person.

You are right. Every Jew that knows his or hers Torah would know this, including the author of the Gospel of John. That being the case we must look for an alternative interpretation. The gospel of John cannot be taken literal. Jesus is a metaphor for God.
