Amazing. Is that an ancient belief?
It was the original views of Christianity before the catholic ideology reformed it to the Roman Empires church (325AD). Some call it gnostic (gnosis just means spiritual knowledge).
The gospels that taught such was not accepted by the rising catholic ideology because it taught that Jesus tried to change the religion the Jews was seeing to one of truth Christ taught. John 1:17
The physical law (flesh) Moses taught was fulfilled by spiritual commandments of love by Christ. Romans 13:9
We become as Christ with this knowledge, Sons of God. John 1:12
The priests recreated the role of the Pharisee's, given themselves celestial authority over man. But when the veil was torn between the people and the holy of holies, the Spirit (capital S) was given to each man (for the first time) to be directly taught by the Father, the true God. John 14:17
John and Paul taught gnosis (out of the NT). When you add the gospels of Thomas, Philip, Mary, the secret books, etc. the hidden knowledge is revealed by the Spirit. Colossians 2:2-4
The Canon just says "seek and find". Gnosis teaches much more:
Gospel of Thomas:
2 Jesus said, "Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. [And after they have reigned they will rest.]"
3 Jesus said, "If your leaders say to you, 'Look, the (Father's) kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is within you and it is outside you.
When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty."
Don't let disturbing truth stop you. It's the devils tool to keep the mind in a prison. Christ "free's" us from the devils prison of fleshly thought, through the Spirit and her knowledge given by the Father.
