How Interesting!
Threads often appear on RF calling for freedom of speech and expression, as in recent debates over French journalism, the French President arguing that printing naked cartoon pictures of religious prophets is 'reasonable' even if it upsets 8 million citizens, the next thing we hear about is that France is attempting to ban freedom to photograph its police officers. The reverse of the coin, eh?

France does some weird things, although I've observed similar attitudes in the U.S.

Freedom of Speech and Expression should not allow provocative, inciting, harmful, vindictive deceitful muck, and if our governments can control this more closely then ........ great!

I see it as an age-old problem, just like how governments wanted to ban certain books/authors because they thought it corrupted youth. It was similar when people complained about sex and violence in movies and TV, along with Tipper Gore's obsession with rock lyrics.

Interesting.
So all Facebook has to do is remain in the USA and the UK can basically only jump up and down about it?
Yep. That's what they get for leaving.
The EU is in a much stronger position as Facebook and Google are European corporations. (I.e. they officially reside in the EU because they don't like to pay taxes in the US.)

Yes, I call all these oddities the result of Taboos. I can't even print nursery rhyms here that I once sang out loud in class when an infant.
Taboos........ :)

Yes, like my nursery songs, and certain toys, all classed as disgusting today. And I remember Mary Whitehouse who used to bring Court cases against media over her idea of obscenity (UK).

More specifically, how exactly is the UK going to make a US company pay said fines?
Is it something like what China does: "you pay these fines or UK citizens will not be allowed to view the Facebook"?

Simply saying "make them pay..." does not answer the question.

HOW are they gonna "make them pay" the fines?
You really think that this is just UK. When we talk about Corona, it is global. First they soften things up with UK does this, and within a few month this blows over to USA, I will be surprised if it won't go this way.

Since it is painfully obvious you can not answer the questions....

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Make them pay big fines if they don't clean up

BUT

If they don't know how, they could always ask China
China knows how to enforce it on people
I think in USA they also know how to do
Good way to start a war. A real one.

I remember those who thought the Beatles were a communist plot.

Ha ha! I read extreme right wingers on another forum (for the shocks) and they reckon half of America is in daily communication with China. And if you have ever visited the Great Wall, that's it, yer a china-commie! :D Oh, and pederasts...... All dems are pederasts and child murderers......... * *

Might be painful for you, BUT not painful for me (in so many aspects). I never made any claim in that direction. You can answer your own created questions I guess

Such questions fall under not sincere IME
