I still don't get it. You think what Obama and Michelle said was wrong or something?

Yes.

That's a good question. You're making me use my huuge brain, but it's super powerful, not to brag or anything.

From what I've seen as far as the people he is appointing, I think things may be worse economically. He's trying to appoint people with no credibility or knowledge of certain positions. Very weird choices. But it's not really about the president, it's about the republicans in congress. Since they now control all levels, prepare for very risky times. These are people lobbied by the fossil fuel industry, healthcare, big pharma, wall street, etc. De-regulation, removing taxes, etc will not lead to a good ending.

That does sound pretty bad. What about the social and civil rights side, though? What are your thoughts on how it may end up?

- Go into office

- Adopt policies that harm the economy and people both domestically and abroad

- Leave the country to deal with the aftermath and faulty policies for years

- Let new presidents do "their" thing and obstruct their policies if they happen to disagree even if the policies are beneficial to the people.

Solid plan. GOP/10.

Are former presidents able to influence new policies and decision-making even if they try to?

that's my point, they are not obstructing anything, George Bush is at home at his ranch painting pictures, Bush senior and even Reagan likewise largely disappeared from public view

Bill Clinton, Al Gore (vice), Jimmy Carter, all actively engaged in politics long after leaving the WH, and I'll bet you that BO will do likewise, they are politician's politicians- they don't want to give up that attention and sense of power

So what is the issue with the picture? What don't you like?

You're going to see a greater intrusion into the secular contistution. You'll see more laws favored by christianity, more religious laws. More discrimination, etc. Trump won't make executive decisions, he'll have the people responsible for writing laws (republicans in congress) carry out the mission.

Dominionism is a dangerous thing, and this is exactly what the far right conservatives want. They put the bible before the constitution. They have no business being elected.

Since Obama is going out of office after eight years, two main thoughts come to mind right now:

1) That it's sad and worrisome his successor is so much worse.

2) That it's even sadder and more worrisome that his inconsistent, unreliabe successors have surpassed even stuff like this:

Goodbye, Obama! The only reason I'm not 100% of the opinion that his leaving is a good thing is that his successor is even worse. Other than that, less inconsistency is definitely a good thing, as far as I can see.

Are you optimistic, pessimistic, or just neutral in light of Obama's leaving? I'm personally worried about the kind of damage his successor may well end up doing to many people, both domestically and abroad.
What an amusing post. Obama has been an utter failure. GDP 1 1/2 per cent, total chaos in the Middle East. A "deal" with Iran that ASSURES they will have nuclear weapons, creation of a national debt larger than all other presidents, combined. an increased poverty rate, pitiful care for Veterans in the VA system, Removal of LARGE amounts of money from the VA to support Syrian alleged refugees, Continuing land grabs by the federal government that we in the Western States do not support, nor want, drawing red lines that become green lights, I could go on and on and on. HE IS AN ABYSMAL FAILURE. Now, to Trump. I was an original Republican #nevertrumper, but the facts are, he won the election. I am cautiously optomistic that he can improve the economy, increase jobs, and reassert America's influence in the world, squandered by Obama. I am willing to give him a chance before I become a snowflake running around screaming the sky is falling.

You sir, spout nonsense and fear mongering, your tired stereotypes are amusing. No one wants anything more than what is enumerated in the Bill of Rights, EVERY right, for EVERY person. "They have no business being elected", spoken like a true "progressive", you are so right on every issue that it is up to you and your ilk to determine who should be elected. Read the Constitution, and see how fatuous your statement is.

And real fiscal conservatives should be pooping bricks right about now based on the fact that Trump has stated he will cut taxes but increase spending. One doesn't have to have a ph.d. in economics to know that these combined approaches are budget busters.

Eh....I have a lot of things that I disagree with Obama on. I think that he did have the best intentions for America and did the best he could. I think he should have done more to curb the war efforts overseas. I think that he should have pushed for a single payer healthcare system instead of Obamacare when he first went into office. I feel like he didn't do enough to help get the nonviolent drug offenders out of prison.

But at least he did attempt to close Guantanamo Bay. He did on at least 2 occasions attempt to decrease military invovlement. He was hesitant to get involved with Syria. He did free people by the thousands who are non-violent drug offenders. He is the first president who has supported gay rights in office. He made the supreme court nominations that allowed us to have full Marriage Equality in all fifty states. I also liked a lot of his appointed members that got shot down by the republicans.

Trump is garbage heap on fire rolling down the highway strait for us. Obama, despite anyone's opinion on his policies, always held himself with a prestine presidential countanence. His family is impeccable and have done extremely well in the public eye. Not once can I think of a time where he embarassed himself in the presidency. I can't think of a time that he wasn't able to rise above many of the undeserved things that he was accused of. Now we have to watch him hand over the highest office in the world to a man who for 8 years spread lies that he wasn't an American citizen. To a man who spread lies about his religion and ties to other countries. He is giving his title over to a man who is the most unqualified contender in American history for this office who has vowed to destroy everything Obama has attempted to build both good and bad. That is a little soul crushing.

I raise a glass to Obama. We didn't always agree but I never thought he was doing less than his best. And while I would have been sick to my stomach to see Hillary walk right into the office I know it wouldn't affect me on a personal level.

Hey, at least you don't have to worry about your elk. They poop all over the place.

But really? Ilk? You've resorted to the cliche "and your ilk"??? That's just so pompous you have to be a Republican! :D Next you'll be ending your posts with "Sad" and start twitering like it's going out of style. Too late. Now that it's been used for evil by Max Twitler, it has gone out of style.

Oh dear god. We elected the Joker in a bad Lex Luthor costume. He's even added a terrible wig to hide what should clearly be kryptonie-induced hair loss!

I guess given the choice between a moo-moo fro-lady and and orange there isn't a real choice. But, at least Obama is going away... He's going to be shunned... like no one will even say his name openly lol

I'm really sad President Obama's term is over. What I expect to happen now is:

  • Tens of thousands die due to the health care law being overturned. Millions go deep into poverty and illness due to inability to pay for medical care. Thousands of hospitals go bankrupt.
  • Ballooning federal deficit since the House won't even let the group designed to calculate costs do their job.
  • Economy going down the tubes into another deep recession.
  • Taxes shift from the poor and middle class to benefit the rich.
  • Suppression of freedom of speech and other constitutional freedoms.
  • Corruption on an unprecedented scale.
  • Toadying to vlad and russia
  • Destruction of government agencies
  • Resurgent religious terrorists.
  • Upsurge in hate crimes by alt-right bigots.
  • Massive increase in pollution.
  • Massive subsidies for uneconomic industries such as coal.
  • Unprecedented demonstrations as people fight back against donny and his gang.
The list will grow of course but we're entering a very dark era where the forces of evil are taking over DC.
