GOP: Autism is god's wrath on America

This is just as bad as the church saying that AIDS was 'God's wrath on homosexuals' - at least that made sense because 'cause and effect' were there (not that I agree with it, of course), but this is just plain idiocy and lunacy.

Autism is God's wrath on people. It is totally indiscriminate and it happens all over the world.

I'll never forgive God for making me this way...never!

So, before they shoot their mouths off over something they know absolutely nothing about, those politicians should all get their facts straight and not use this disease for their own agendas. It is disgusting.
This is one of the drawbacks of living in a free country (well, at least semi-free), almost anybody who gets enough names on a petition can run for office. Fortunately we are not compelled to vote for them (unless we are fundies and they are Republicans of course).

I have a question, are any of you calling to abolish the GOP?

Nope. They seem to be doing a good job at that all by themselves. Their views and policies on minorities, women and the LGBT are not sitting well with the youth who have a much higher tolerance and acceptance level for all people. The next generation is very progressive in their views...and the GOP fails to understand this.

Do many of you want a one party system in this country?

I don't. I don't see it as that productive. But even in a one party system views will vary from the conservative to the liberal.

Would you then endorse the smearing of the Republican Party based on this person as legitimate?

I don't know about smearing, but at some point one must consider that maybe Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, John McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Oliver North, Ronald Reagan and both George Bushes are not quite all outliers among the GOP members.

In other words, I wonder if it is even possible to smear the Republican Party based on that person.

The title of this thread is intentionally misleading. That is not a GOP position as the title would have us think.

I see it as a very positive thing, when these Right Wing American Lunatics profess this nonsense.

The more they spout this complete, evil, jibberish about God sending bad weather because of Gay people, and in this case Autism also being an angry reprise by the loving conservative god, the more they VILIFY themselves, and put themselves on the FRINGE.

And those two things, are what will keep right wing conservative christian nutcases in a very, very small minority.

Anyway, look at the woman's hair! :)

...........same thing with Palin. I think it's brilliant that she represents the Republicans with such a loud voice; having such an idiotic, unintelligent, jibberish-speaking fool will put people off Republicanism and conservatism - and that's a good thing. :)

What is it that Republicans hate so much about people wth Autism?

And that's just the beginning. This is not an isolated incident. This is the mentality of many, probably most, conservative Christians and Republicans. So, when do I and my kids get to stop being demonized, and when will the right wing wake up?

I so wish I could agree. But I definitely do not. It is a very bad thing that such destructive beings are taken seriously at all in any political system.

I completely agree with you. Surely a more moderate, secular conservative party would be a far better outcome than extremists repeatedly alienating a slim majority of Americans with their militant, uncompromising political positions. Just seems risky, to me. What if they actually get elected? It could happen. I shudder to imagine the consequences, not just for Americans, but for all of us. Look what happened the last time: two wars and a complete bulldozing of a decade's worth of climate negotiations. And this current crop of loons is much worse than the last crop.

LOL and if we become a nation of loons we will have a loon for president. Such is the expected result of democracy. :D

Been there and done that. That's why we need serious critical thinkers and not gay bashing, abortion banning, immigrations blocking, climate science deniers creationist running things...

That would be a career ending speech in Canada. We had a Conservative Science Minister hint that he wasn't really sure what to think about evolution and he immediately got a call from the PMs office to retract that statement and reassure us that he accepts the facts. He doesn't, of course, and this brand of Conservatives are an exceptionally "religious" gang of polititicians, for Canada. You still can't be saying stuff like that out loud and expect to keep your job in a pluralistic, secular society. You've got to demonstrate you can keep your religious beliefs and your political decisions neatly compartmentalized, and stick to facts and reason when it comes to the latter. Otherwise you are not qualified for the job.
