What a difference a day makes.

49 Republican senators have signed onto a statement declaring support for access to in vitro fertilization.

"Senate Democrats have embraced a Summer of Scare Tactics—a partisan campaign of false fearmongering intended to mislead and confuse the American people. In vitro fertilization is legal and available in every state across our nation. We strongly support continued nationwide access to IVF, which has allowed millions of aspiring parents to start and grow their families,"

And then ....

Senate GOP blocks bill to guarantee access to IVF nationwide

"Senate Republicans voted Thursday to block a bill put forward by Democrats that would guarantee access to in vitro fertilization nationwide."

Another case of don't listen to what they say, look at what they do.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
First I am a Republican though ashamed of it at present.
Second, if you think the Democratic party is left wing, you have never been out of the country with your eyes open in the last 50 years maybe.
Let me know how your jet setting around the world goes then.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am not ashamed of being predominately conservative. But I do despise most politicians.

There IS a difference though between allowing access and demanding access. Also, which of the 49 Republicans who voted to allow access to IVF voted against demanding access?

Could you please explain to me what you think the difference is?

Also, which of the 49 Republicans who voted to allow access to IVF voted against demanding access?
That would be all of them except two. Every Republican Senator signed the statement, and all but two of them turned around the next day and voted against allowing access.

The two that voted for allowing access were Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska).

If it is allowed, you can't be told you can't have it. The Republican waffle is we agree we should say it should be allowed, but we don't really want to put anything in the way of our friends disallowing it.

Sure you can play with Timmy if his mother agrees but you can't talk to her.

Like I said, there is a big difference between allowing something and demanding something.

Also, yes, you can be told you can't have it if you can't pay for it. For instance, I can't just walk into a store and demand that since I am ALLOWED to be in there, I am also to be given whatever I want from in there. It just doesn't work that way. There are all sorts of things one is allowed to do but that doesn't mean they can demand whatever. Hey, I want a bigger house!

Then you are misunderstanding this bill. This bill does not provide funding for IVF, nor subsidize it in anyway. If you want IVF treatment you still have to pay for it, and I understand it is very expensive. This bill would have only guaranteed access to IVF nationwide. Meaning if you can pay for it, the State cannot stop you.
Also, which of the 49 Republicans who voted to allow access to IVF voted against demanding access?
I think I answered that question in post # 11. It is easier to list the Republican Senators who did not vote against it, Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska).

Do you really need me to list the names of the 47 Senators who voted against it? I think that is something you can just look up.

I do need to see the bill. The way it was presented, it seemed like it was something a person was able to demand or require, not simply an allowance of it.

From the article itself:

Senate Republicans voted Thursday to block a bill put forward by Democrats that would guarantee access to in vitro fertilization nationwide.

Thank you so much! I really don't care enough about this subject to look it all up!

So I can see right away that the demand for IVF at other peoples' expense is there. Not only that, they can take it to court.
