GOP's nightmare: An Independent Donald Trump

So, as a third party candidate, you don't think that Trump would take votes away from the GOP candidate?

Of course he would. But that doesn't bother me too much. I don't relish the idea of a Republican president (although personally I would probably benefit).

Well, the question wasn't whether you would care, but rather whether it would hurt the GOP.

I get that. But I also think Trump feels much the same way at least for now. When the party inevitably shouts him down, It will be interesting seeing what he does. I suspect he will stay in it as an independent and in the end endorse someone in an attempt at making trump the kingmaker. This would suit his ego.

All of this is assuming he doesn't destroy the parties chances for a win.

A year ago I would have said the republicans should have an easy election win. Now I'm not so sure.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Personally I find the remote notion of a Trump vs Bernie run-off as brilliant. Both of them are not afraid to say exactly what they are thinking and unlike virtually everyone else running they both hold interesting, if controversial, views.
It sort of brings to mind that bid made by Ross Perot with hopes of revitalizing the party and steer it in the right direction, although I question as to weither this will have any kind of impact towards improving the present situation as it stands.

Just finding the right candidate alone is a mind numbingly egregious task now. As a voter it's getting harder and harder to make any kind of informed choice as to whom to back. Trump at least stands out and provides a fair amount of contrast yet in light of Perot, it remains to be seen. Either way at least Trump dosent hide his disposition from anyone. Something that is not seen in politics as much as it used to be. We need more of that in the GOP.

This is a strong likelihood.
Makes much more sense than Trump believing he can beat Hillary at her own game.

Call it a hostile takeover of the Republican party.

The problem - the source of embarrassment - is not Trump. It's that he has a base of support who are actually allowed to vote.

I agree with Jayhawker on this... it's nothing if one person has a terrible idea... it's the support and underlying beliefs/attitudes that could actually support such a man running that we should be more concerned about.
